Thinking about a Boss.
Well it's been nearly 2-years since I sold my 392 and I am getting a heavy urge for another toy. I've been going round and round with cars like a 03/04 Cobra, 1LE, ScatPack, and a Boss Mustang.
I really enjoy trips to the dragstrip but wouldn't mind giving a track such as VIR a try. I keep coming back to the Boss Mustang as the car that would offer the best balance for the strip/track and street performance. I have a chance to purchase a like new race red boss in perfect condition and low mileage for mid 30s, as these cars seem to be holding their value very well I am tempted.

The Boss 302 is a great car. Before I got my Camaro I was looking for one in Performance White (that Gotta Have It Green color still catches my eye!). It's a limited 2 year run so they should hold their value. My old boss has one and she takes hers to the track all the time. If you get it don't forget the pics!

I am in NO WAY a Ford guy, but they are impressive cars. I test drove one just for the Hell of it about 2 months ago. Orange, Laguna Seca wheels, other cosmetic extras, 2,400 miles. It felt very tight and responsive. The cut-out exhaust is pretty cool too. If I were to buy a Mustang, a BOSS would be the ticket.

Boss 302. Almost closed the deal on a 2013 Green Boss before settling on the 1LE. Get what you want not what we're advising on.

This is my concern, the owner states that there are no issues and they do seem to be hit and miss from car to car, but I had issues with my 12 GT not wanting to go into 2nd and 3rd gear at high rpm. I will definately check this several times should I decide to buy.

The Boss is old-school raw and so fun to drive even with its SRA. The exhaust sound with the side baffle plates removed is intoxicating music. And it loves to rev! There are other faster cars out there but for strip/track AND the nonstop enjoyment to drive- the Boss still ranks up there with the best of them. I can't say it enough, what a fun car to drive particularly due to the engine and the lighter weight compared to 5th gen Camaros. That's also a good deal that you found... low miles in the mid-30s is fair since as you know these are holding values and/or depreciating minimally. As stated, the achilles heal is the MT-82 trans but it's hit or miss so to speak... didn't have probs with mine even during track or autox events. Good luck! Anyway here's a teaser... my '12 on display at B-J before and two '13's I saw at a local car show and at Homestead Raceway... |
