Wax on Wax off

When waxing your rides do you wax over the rally stripes? Very difficult to avoid them. What products do you like best to shine and protect the paint (and rally stripes)?

Never wax matte stripes or vinyl. It's okay to wax stripes that are clear coated.

As for what wax to use, you will get a bunch of different opinions and there are a lot of great waxes out there. Just stay away from stuff at walmart such as turtle wax.

I use blackfire midnight sun.

you can the vinyl as long as it's not matte. its not a bad idea to tape the edges though.

actually, walmart offers a lot of the higher end waxes now. I was surprised to see them selling stuff like Zymol

Use caution with the stuff manufacturer's send to Walmart, regardless of brand. Believe me, I was in the manufacturing world and know full well about the "Walmart-destined assembly line." (seriously)

The only thing I use is Eagel 1's wax as you dry on everything from the wifes Camaro to my motorcycle. During pollen season I use pledge in the blue can. And pledge on the front plastic and head lamps. Been using both products for years and no swirls, miniumum effort and a great shine. Silver with matte black rally stripes.

I will not use Mequire's spray n wax, it leaves white spots on everything you can't get to especially on a motorcycle. I gave up on hand waxing years ago. I used to hand wax my first truck and with in ten years the clear coat was shot. Since then I haven't hand waxed anything. I have a '98 Chev truck and the paint still looks goods.

I have owned the same car since 1989 and it was last painted in 2002. My clearcoat has never suffered visible ills from proper waxing, polishing, buffing, washing... I cannot imagine how the action of wxing a car can 'damage' clearcoat but the same action used in washing the car did not. Respectfully, JF, there was something wrong with the clearcoat on your truck and waxing had nothing to do with the inherent problem. You saw a symptom, not the disease.

There's no telling, I washed it every week and waxed it a lot. It was my first new truck. The coast climit may have had something to do with it. But, after that I gave up on hand waxing anything. I use a leaf blower to dry it then use soft micro fiber clothes with a spray wax and pledge.

I have no issues with mine using Meguires tech 2.0 and other times quick spray on wax using mircro fiber towels for both

I use Meguires Cleaner/Wax product to detail my summit white Camaro. In 5 years I've only waxed
my IO factory stripes twice. Again, using Meguires Cleaner/Wax. Works just fine and it leaves
no tell-tale evidence.
Oh, by the way- Always purchase it at WalMart.
