Volant CAI
http://www.amazon.com/Volant-Intake-.../dp/B009BG5T28
Just wondering, that 90 Degree bend in that tube has got to make some serious turbulence no? Just wondering if anyone has this one installed and if it's worth it. Was reading up and people were saying that the engine runs very lean after the install. What are the risks with no tune? Thanks

the ECM will adjust the air/fuel mixture. all of the intakes for our cars have a 90* bend in them, as long as it is a nice smooth surface it should be fine. far as i know there is nothing wrong with the Volant as an intake, i think most people dont like its appearance.

The pictures on Amazon and Volant's web site show an open design that looks like it would pull in hot air from the engine compartment. Just my opinion, but for just a few more dollars I would get a Rotofab intake with a proven track record.

All false information. It is completely enclosed. It is not a 90 degree bend, the pictures are misleading. It goes upward a little which gives the illusion that it is at a acute angle. I love mine.

Here is mine: For me it was about performance and looks. I did my research. Nothing beats the way a CAI fits and looks under the hood.

this may step on some toes, but lets be real about this....
any intake is gonna give you around the same gains... the difference in real world terms is akin to taking out the spare tire and doing a run, vs having it in. buy what you like the look of... no need to spend extra cash if you aren't really gonna gain anything from it. the Volant will do just as well as the CAI or the Roto-Fab and prob a few other choices... REALISTICALLY. from any differences in gains, were talking about what? maybe a 1-3hp difference, and that TOTALLY VARIES from car to car.... don't spend an extra 50$ to follow someone, buy what works and what you like the look of. if you dig the Volant, get that, and spend the 50$ saved on your next mod.

I have the Volant CAI for a year now and have had no problems in the 10,000 miles I have driven, I did buy the dry filter and enjoy being able to fill up my windshield washer fluid without removing a cover. I think it looks well and sounds great, and was easy to install.

Vooant CAI Powercore Dry Filter
I have the Volant with the Powercore Dry Filter. Paid about $250 for it. It looks stock, filters extremely well, and sounds great. If you don't want an oiled cotton gauze filter media then the Powercore is the way to go. Same filter they use on some of the late model Corvettes.
Filter is good for 50k-100k miles, and can be blown out, but I haven't tried that yet. Be sure to google "Donaldson Powercore Filter" to learn more about the technology. Last edited by Lacpac; 07-09-2014 at 07:37 AM. Reason: Add pics |
