Thumbs up Static Cling Window Tint : Review

In NY/NJ you can't have any tint whatsoever on your drivers/passenger front windows. After going through the painful process of removing my tint on my Eclipse, I didn't want to have them re-tinted with another inspection coming up in 11 months. But the car looks naked with out it....

I thought wouldn't it be great if tint could be simply peel and stick - and taken on or off for when you get pulled over, or inspections. I thought I had a business idea on my hands - until I looked on Amazon. It already exists...

I ordered the Gila kit (20% tint) from Amazon for $20, along with the spray kit and squeegee (theirs works really well I recommend it).

It comes in a long roll with wax paper backing - the hardest part (not that hard) is measuring against your window and then cutting with a razor. From there, it's really just a matter of spraying down the inside of the window heavily, lininig up the tint, and a few minutes of squeegeing out the solution.

I was very surprised this actually worked - and how it holds up. I was worried the film would peel up once I put the window down, but it holds up perfectly. If you want to take it off, you just peel a corner and it comes right off. Of course you can reapply the same way you did originally, it is reusable.

My only complaint would be the visibility is slightly cloudy compared to regular tint - something I can definitely live with. Make sure you apply on a nice hot day and let it dry in the sun - this minimizes cloudiness.

I will post pics later!

I tried something like this, many years ago, for the rear window of my 1979 Trans Am. VERY difficult angle to try and work, and it never came out right. Most likely it wasn't the best example of that product, and I don't recall what tool I used to try and smooth it. Seems much easier to do it on the side windows.

Is it that dark blue-ish tint, like most of these stick on ones are?

Yeah I think the rear window would be tough. Side windows it is easy. No, the color is slightly greyish compared to "real tint" but from the outside it matches my other windows perfectly. I really should have posted pics here, I will tonite!
