Best rain tires for 2013 2SS/RS
Living up here in the Northwest (Seattle) - "Winter" is quickly upon us. "Winter" in Seattle simply means cloudy and rain from September through April. It will VERY occasionally make it down to freezing for a few days per year.
Reading about the poor performance of the stock summer tires in rain/hydroplaning has me thinking about the best rain tires. Lots of posts here about all-season tires and no problem going with that (and blizzaks for snow) but a quick search did not turn up anyone talking specifically about good old hydroplaning... I will have to be gentle with my AGP TT 650HP, but even so, wanted to hear some input. Thanks in advance!

General GMax AS have good hydroplanning resistance. Also most snow tires work well in the rain and slush.

Lots of G8 guys rave about the Continental DWS as well. Supposedly one of the better all season colder temp tires. I would of got it had we seen more freezing temps but went for a better tire during the summer.

Good input - and nice compare feature on the tirerack.com site - based on the customer feedback, when comparing:
Continental ExtremeContact DWS General G-MAX AS-03 Goodyear Eagle GT (W-Speed Rated) The Continental tires rate highest in basically every category and includes the road warranty, basically a $180 premium over a comparable G-Max set ($980 vs $800). Worth the extra $180 for the DWS?

These seem like a great deal as well - with free shipping in US, it is inline with DWS cost:
Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 20" Tire Package

I got my Eagles for $150 off thanks to a rebate card so I got all 4 for the G8 for around $600 installed. Was hard to pass up that price.

My Conti DWS are great in the rain.
The 540 treadwear rating is also one of the best out there for a performance all season tire. My fronts have almost 25K miles and the tread is barely worn.....the rears, well that's another story.....

The Vredesteins are excellent in the rain as you can see from manyof the other users.
For slush and snow the Toyo Proxes4 Plus is also another great choice. |
