You do realize that the Torque Converter has to do the your Automatic Transmission, right? It has no bearing on your VVT Cam.
Unless I am not understanding the question. T.

Some wild cams require a converter to work properly, without on it will die on you at a light or it'll fight your foot when you break.

OP, check with Rino or TSP. Both are the VVT guru's on here.

Please come back and update this thread after talking with them. I would like to know what you find out. I don't want to change the converter either but would be interested in swapping cams.

The converter swap is a sweet mod. I have a 3800 stall circle d multi disc in mine. It's a sweet machine with a different converter.

I would most likely call rhino or Tsp. What I am sure of though is you can run TSP vvt1 cam without a converter and I bet you can get away with their vvt 2 cam as well but it won't be as civil

Drag racing is not my thing though. Running hard through the mountains and road course is more like it for me. 90% of the time is daily driving duties.

+1. It will compliment your current mods. You will want to do a larger trans cooler. Which I would suggest to anyone, aftermarket converter or not. My temps creep just past 180 on a 116* day in the blazing az heat. That is when I decide to drive it. Which isn't often.

I have the Texas Speed VVT-1 without the converter. The cam made 70 rwhp with the ATI pulley. Depending on your tune, the cam will idle steady and take off without lurking. It has a nice mild lope with a little shake of the car. Now, the VVT-2 could be a little different without the aftermarket converter. PM me if you like.

That's what I was going to say was the vvt1...yeah or talk to rhino79. If you mainly do curvy roads vs drag racing, you don't want a high stall. Stock converter or maybe a 3000 stall single disk at most. You wanna drag race though...more stall and a triple is the only way. If redline is doing and will continue to do your tuning...you should put heart in their cam selection. You want your tuner to understand what they are working with. There aren't many out there that 'get' VVT.
