Who is GM really competing with?
Call me crazy. Is there THAT much competition on the racetrack to offer these models? Z28 SS 1LE/SS COPO ZL1. I have stated in an earlier post that GM totally destroyed the traditional Camaro Badge naming convention by coming out with a Z28 and giving it a 427 . Z28 was always the model under the SS..It seems like they are trying to offer models like in the 60's that were rare etc.. which is a good thing.. but ..
Are they trying to revive or jump start a culture that now isn't quite what it was in this country years ago? Are they just trying to compete with Ford for magazine bragging rights? I mean who really can afford to buy a 60K Plus car just for the track. I'd rather build an older car to compete.. Then again that's just my opinion. Who on this board goes to the track religously. I just wan't to guage the responses |

Here we go.....Z28 was always the top dog...GM destroyed the naming convention in the fourth gen.
There's going to be a very small amount of these built, they are mostly going to be garage queens and collector items.

I like having choices. We should've had more choices from the start. I would've bought a Z28 in '09 instead of an SS. If Pontiac was still around I would've bought a T/A instead of an SS. As long as GM doesn't start making 4-door Camaros I don't care how many options they have.

They're all different models for a reason. Now and then. SS was always the big block, Z/28 was the track car. Not one was "top dog" over the other.

I think people keep confusing Z28s with THE Z/28. Big difference. This is like a modern version of THE Z/28.

Actually, things for the 5th gen are ass-backwards from 4th gen.
4th Gen 1LE = Stripped out, all-road track oriented peformance 5th Gen Z28 = Stripped out, all-road track oriented peformance

I think it's more about bragging rights than anything. Like you said, 60K is a lot to spend on a track-only car.
I took my SS to the track a few times last year to see what it would do, but I don't plan on making a habit of it. I'm sure it's hard on the car, and I know all those burnouts will make short work of the Pzeros.

be thankful we have more choices now.i love it.do you remember the 70s,80s and 90s.i remember when the top dog corvette had a whopping 190hp and the engine was crammed full of smog junk.i wish gm would bring back the ss chevelle.(2 door of course.)i am sure some models will be dropped later on.enjoy it while you can.

I think, who cares....they are all great cars. I wish I had the money to own one of each.

Can't count Firebird 1LEs as they don't have a 5th gen to compare. JMO, but GM has finally righted the ship between a street-bruiser ZL1 and the curvy track monster Z/28. But the 5th gen 1LE is a great compromise between the two if you want a little bit of both worlds, without the god-awful power (and price tag)
