LS9 in a ZL1 from the factory?????
Got into a discussion last night with a couple kids that were telling me an aquaintance of theirs just took possesion of their new ZL1 camaro and how amazing it was. I agreed that they were extremely impressive cars. They then asked me how I knew about the new camaros so I filled them in a bit about my car.
They then replied, "That sounds impressive but our friend got the same engine thats in the ZR1 vette in her camaro so its the most powerful camaro around!" I just laughed which kind of pissed them off and then asked if they had seen the engine. They said yes and I asked what the engine said on the engine cover. Neither one had any idea so I asked if it said LS9 or LSA. They both said they thought it said LSA. Told them that was correct and that this was the standard ZL1 engine with 580 HP and that it was a tuned up version of the supercharged engine in the cadillac CTS-V and they upped the HP by 30 but that it was NOT the ZR1s LS9 engine which produced 648 HP. Then one of the kids said, no I think it did say LS9 on the engine....... I laughed again as it was clear these two had no idea what they were talking about and neither did the owner of the car. Told them it is the same 6.2 L displacement as the ZR1 vette engine but thats about the end of the similiarities. They got pissed and said it does not matter its still the most powerful car in the valley... Laughed again and told them I had almost 100 HP over what the ZL1 was producing stock and I still had a major upgrade coming this winter which would take me up to around 800 HP at the crank. The one kid then said well, she had the car custom ordered to include the Vette engine, its a one of a kind custom ordered car. Really laughed at that one. Seems some simply do not like to be educated a bit with facts even though they sound pretty silly when they talk about things they have no idea about what they are talking about.

People must be polite in Montana. Growing up in Jersey (now unfortunately in Florida) when one is engaged in a conversation with somebody of inferior intellect, we just laugh and walk away. We don't bother trying to educate. Kudos to you for trying though.

Bet them $1000 that it has an LSA, or they have to shut up forever.

But according to top gear the CTS-V LSA and the ZR1 LS9 are very similar engines just with diffrenent supper chargers and thinks like that to get more power out of the LS9. |

My 1LT came with a 427 big block from the factory. Special order, because I've got Arab Money. You can't explain that.

And most powerful car in the valley... That is a big claim. There are some very HIGH HP cars in the valley. If you know where to look.
Not including the salt rail in Manchester.

Quote:
The ZR1 has forged iron connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons and smaller volume supercharger. Not sure if the LSA engine uses the 1.9 L supercharger or 2.3 L? The LSA costs $11,199 form GM, the LS9 runs $23,999 from GM. I can not say they are SIMILIAR engines for that much difference in cost.
