No XM Radio with Camaro in Puerto Rico?
My Camaro came with no OnStar service because it is not available in Puerto Rico. I could care less. But what I would really want is the XM Radio but it doesn't work. The dealer told me that the XM works "through" the OnStar system and since there is no OnStar in PR, I can't get XM. Is this true? Has anybody outside the US been able to connect the XM Radio through the stock radio? If have to buy an XM receiver, I'll stick to regular radio and my iPod.

No, not if you have the hardware for it in your car. Onstar & XM (actually it's SiriusXM) are two different companies.
State side, you can have either one without the other, or both.

I live in the USVI (I'm always in San Juan making stops on the way to/from the states!) but I have XM in some of my cars here and it works 100%. Call them up and they should be able to set it up for you

Dead center of the page there is a button that says: "Start Here" You should be able to get all of the information ya need from it. Next link/page it says under the Subscribe Now "In Your Vehicle FAQs"

You have the export model Camaro so the radio doesn't have the satellite radio hardware. Instead the radio has a CD changer built inside.

If you hit the XM button, does it go to XM? It should go AM/FM/XM, and on XM you should get a couple preview stations.

Yes, they are famous for this... (being clueless)! ....by the way how is "Peggy"...... Sounds like your going to need somebody other than your dealer that know's something about XM hardware to help ya.

I found the radio ID in the XM Menu. Going to try to activate it throught their website. If I do, I'll have to instruct Sirius/XM on how their service works.

The problem you have is a result of the XM radio receiver in your car as opposed to a Sirrius radio receiver. XM uses low orniting satellites for it's communications where Sirrius uses high orbiting satellites. Unfortunantly GM uses XM equipment. So, your options are to replace the radio with a Sirrius chipset or listen to your IPod. Reception of XM low orbit is just not going to happen in PR. XM customer service should have been able to tell you this.

DO NOT ACTIVATE IT IF IT DOES NOT HAVE A SIGNAL!!! It wont work and they will biull you for service. Cancelling service with them is NOT AN EASY TASK! See my previous post. |

OPP, did you make it work?
My father purchased a new Hyundai SUV and the XM worked perfectly!!!! I really don't know why it does not work in our Camaro's.
