I'm racing a Mustang 5.0 next week, any tips?

Dear Camaro Folks,

I'm racing a Mustang 5.0 next week. Any tips?

I drive a 2010 SS/RS LS3, last week I had K&N filter and GMPP Performance exhaust installed on my car, should have almost 30 hp increase.

Many people warned me that the 5.0 is nasty and can take on my SS. What do you guys think?

I'm pretty confident that I can take on the 5.0, the trick is the quick gear shift. Anyway, I really appreciate your feedbacks.

Thanks.

Is the 5.0 stock?
Alot of 5.0s have gotten beat down the 1/4 mile. Theyre 0-60 times are great but 1/4 times are close to the SS stock for stock, If hes stock and your not, I would assume you would win if you calculate drivers out of it

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you did not gain 30 hp from an intake and catback. If he is stock or only has an intake it's a drivers race.

This is truth on the hp, don`t believe the claims especially if you are not tuned. However on the race aspect if he has a manual car it is a drivers race, if its an automatic car you will lose, it will be close if your a good driver but he will still beat you. Sorry. The Auto mustangs run amazing times.:(

I'm not even sure it's an intake... OP makes it sound like it's just a drop in K&N filter... which is good for about 0 HP..

K&N intake and GMPP exhaust = 5 hp or so (maybe). The GMPP axle back exhaust is worth 0 hp and the K&N filter maybe 5hp on a good day.

5.0 auto will take out a stock Camaro SS. In a manual vs manual race, it usually comes down to the launch and driver's skill. I've seen quite a few stock 5.0s run down the 1/4 mile and they can definitely be beat by a well drive Camaro SS. But the edge is still in the 5.0s favor (drives being equal).

So my advice to the O.P. is make sure you can get a good launch (very little wheel spin launch). If your spinning off the line, you're going to be toast. You need to beat him off the line and hold your lead.

This is just bench racing. Cars are to close and it will most likely come down to the driver if the cars are pretty much stock. Don't screw up and hope he does. That's about all I can offer you.

5.0 is going to win if OP thinks he gained 30hp off a filter (not even intake) and a catback lol.

it's a driver's race, my suggestion, don't talk trash to the 5.0 or anywhere else for that matter, be silent and practice. Let the driving do the talking and if you beat him, still be humble because these cars are very close in performance to each other and at any given night you can take him or viceversa.

Oh, did I say PRACTICE? the launch is where is at.
