Bahahahahahaa, here we go again. There is a GINORMOUS thread in the 'Camaro vs....' thread about this. As usual you have some people saying the Camaro will win and some saying they are nuts and the Mustang will win. It will likely be a drivers race. Of couse, there are the variables such as trans and other stuff. The best way you are going to find out is go run them and make sure to get video, otherwise it never happened and you will also have proof. Good luck.

Yeah it has been asked before...But to answer your question DON'T TRY IT!!!
I think they changed the gearing on the 2011 Camaro V6 to get better Mileage, and it may even be slower than a 2010 Camaro V6. a 2012 V6 may be a different matter all together.

Stock 05-09 GT is quite a bit faster. When the 2005 GTs first came out, Motor Trend's first test of one did a 13.6 1/4 mile with the 5-speed automatic.

The Camaro may have a little more "peak" horsepower, but the curve is much better on the 4.6L V8. It has a lot more torque off the line, and sustains its power over a wide RPM range (they peaked at 300, but made within 5 of that everywhere between 5000 and 6000 RPM). The 3.6 V6's peak is much higher and narrower. As the old saying goes, no replacement for displacement.

The 05-09 gt will more or less beat a v-6 camaro by around 8 car lengths, so it's not a driver's race by any means.

8 car lengths? Hahaha the driver of the v6 was probably unaware that he was racing.

Ahh, the age old question. I can't remember the outcome of the other threads on this, but there are some youtube vids, and I think the Camaro won in a few. It was a closer race than some people would think. Not 100% sure if these were pre-2005 GTs, though.

I think the '12s are the ones with the new gears. The 2010s and '11s are the same (3.27, I think?).

Mostly true, but the LLT also has a surprisingly flat TQ "curve", especially with a CAI.

You have to factor in auto vs auto or auto vs stick. There was a thread where a V6 Camaro owner had a friend or coworker with a 05+ Mustang convertible with an auto and he had the M6 in his Camaro. I don't see a stock Stang like the vert auto pulling a stock V6 Camaro by 8 car lengths.

According to the posts in the 2011 V6 automatic vibration thread they say the 2010 has the 3.27 but the 2011 has a 2.92. I don't know I just took their word on it.

Naturally, the heaviest/slowest version of the mustang gt (auto convertible) vs a manual v-6, is significantly closer, but what would that be, 4 car lengths (4 tenths difference in the 1/4)? I figured it would be assumed that we're talking manual to manual and auto to auto.

Nah, he probably just didn't realize that the v-6 camaro isn't fast at all (comparably, of course, it's a quick car in it's own right).

Average 1/4 mile time for an 05-09 gt is 13.5-13.6 (let's even say 13.8 for the auto convertible) Average time for a camaro v-6 is 14.3-14.4.

so, 14.4-13.6 = .8 (that's tenths btw) and 14.3-13.5= .8 (again, tenths)

Here's where things get magical, every tenth equals roughly 1 car length, so one could say 8 tenths is the equivalent of 8 car lengths.

"hahahahaha"
