I was just looking over the list for this year's Scottsdale auction when I found this:

It says a special new Chevrolet model will be revealed during the auction.
Could it be the first Z28? Anybody heard anything to confirm or deny it?

Doubt it will be a Z28 unless they have this event near the end of the year.

It could be them auctioning off the first production units of the Convertible like they did with the first unit of the 2010 Camaro.

Yes, the first (actually 2nd) Camaro Convertible was auctioned in Las Vegas for a total sale price of $205,000.

It won't be a Camaro Convertible.
