Would you buy used??

Been having a hard time locating a ZL1 I want and haven't pulled the trigger on special ordering one. However when I was a chevy yesterday there happened to be a 17 ZL1 that someone just traded in. The car was purchased in March and has 4500 miles on it. Looks clean and is being warrantied as certified. It's a manual tranny which is what I prefer (yes I've been keeping up on the post regarding the car bogging). I'm just wondering if buying used is a smart option given I worry about break in of the motor and such. It looks like it already had the sway bar bolts tightened at 900 miles and it was evaluated for the clicking noise from the front tires. Both of which are common I know. I working on price right now. It's got PDR, floor mats. Other than that no other options. Sold originally for MSRP at 65k. What would a good used price be that you guys would consider. I was thinking 58k but not sure if that's too low

Personally, I wouldn't unless the savings were immense. Generally, a car of that desirability and original price is not going to be discounted enough for me to even consider it. Like you said, you have no idea how they treated it (and, as a reference, every time I have traded in a high performance car, I have beat the shit out of it for a couple of days before trading it to have some fun.)

I have no problem buying used cars, especially certified used cars as they are generally a decent discount and if you plan on getting rid of it before the warranty expires, you literally have nothing to lose. If you plan on keeping the car forever, then spend the extra 5 grand and buy new (if you have an insentive to use).

4500 miles is a bit high to me for 58K. I would consider 55K personally

I found a GM executive fleet car for 56k. I bought it. Why not? It’s not like I won’t be trading it for the 2020 ZL1 with xxx horsepower and xxxx features. Cars aren’t museum pieces and 5k miles is really nothing unless you want it for your home garage museum you’ll have for life.

I feel the same way as you. I don't keep my cars for longer than 3 years because I tend to get bored with them, want new features or fear looming repairs. The last three cars I have purchased have been certified pre-owned cars and they have been great. Anything broken would be fixed quickly under the warranty and it was no sweat. I agree that $58k is a bit high.

Yeah, it is worth considering how long you think you will keep the car for sure. I generally keep my cars for quite a while. If you don't, then the warranty may still be around before you get rid of it.

These cars are pretty much broken in from the factory. They have short mileage break-ins in the manual but they are recommended and don't necessarily need to be followed and often times aren't followed and the car turns out fine.

The Chevy CPO inspection is 172 point. I would not worry about buying this car, it will be fine and backed by a warranty longer than you would have had brand new.

I wouldn't give 58k for it, you can get a brand new one for that price

I'm always down to save on depreciation, so if it's a good deal, clean, and mechanically sound I'd say go for it. Think about it. These LT4's are capable of supporting over 800 hp. So what if the previous owner drove it a little hard occasionally? Don't we all? I also think the 1500 break in is BS. I didn't stress myself with trying to strictly adhere to it. Most people don't buy cars in this price range and beat the crap out of them over this short period of time.
