I think you put the majority of us in that bucket. lol

They can call it the IROC for all I care, just put that LT4 in it and drive it

....although I wouldn't like the name IROC ever being brought back. I take that back. I'll go with ZL1

Lol.

I would like something bigger like a 427 with lower compression and overbuilt internals. That way I could add my own power adder and not worry so much about breaking it. Oh, and in honor of the original 427 ZL1 engine I would think they should call it a ZL1.

ZL2

I'd like a larger blower, the 1.7L doesn't have much room to spin faster.

Wrong Answer!! There was an after-market company already selling ZL1's when Chevy decided to bring the name back. The company was doing well selling them. Chevy pretty much copied them note for note on what they did with the factory made ZL1 (almost same exact HP and price). Chevy even let the company keep making their own ZL1's for a year or two after Chevy decided to bring back the name themselves. They were just restricted to how many they could build in coupe and vert.

Chevy saw what an after-market company was doing and doing well and was like we should do this ourselves.

ZL1 = Boost. Supercharger or turbo(s), I don't care.
Z/28 = N/A. As many revs as possible; an engine with real character.

Still doesn't change the fact that the car which became the ZL1 was originally going to be a Z/28. GM changed it before it was revealed, hence the Z/28 markings on some ZL1 parts.

GM wanted the name ZL1 for the car that was to be the Z28. The design was not true to the Z28, hence the name change. Chevy had a relationship with SLP for years whom they retrieved the name from. They did not copy the ZL1 from SLP.
