AH/Traction control disable
Can I turn off the traction and AH in touring mode? Can touring mode support comp mode?
Its a double click on the traction button for comp mode right? I cant seem to slide the car when I do that. The vette has modes within modes, the SS seems more limited. Also, how do I turn everything totally off? I need a chart or something!

Sport and Track can access Comp mode. Snow/Ice and Tour can not.

You can manually set certain things from the my link screen (i.e. Steering from Tour) while in a different mode, such as Track, through the MyLink screen.

Push and hold the T/C button for about 10 seconds to shut T/C and Stabilitrac off completely. Messages on the DIC will tell you when you do that or activate Competitive mode. The T/C and Stabilitrac idiot lights will also come on on the dash.
It's all in the manual. If you want to slide, put it in Sport mode and turn off T/C and Stabilitrac Oh - and be careful! With them off it goes sideways quickly and easily.

They have to make sure that nobody does it by accident.
As for the duration, I think that its technically 7 seconds ... but might as well just do it for 10 to be sure.

Press Twice
I don't hold the button down. I just hit it twice in succession. Once for each mode. It's quicker that way. No waiting.

Yea I've always wondered why people say wait 7-10 seconds or so to cut them both off when all u gotta do it push the button twice and it cuts TC and stabitrak off.

Competitive Driving Mode (V8 Only) Competitive Driving Mode allows full engine power while the StabiliTrak system helps maintain directional control of the vehicle by selective brake application. In this mode, TCS is off and Launch Control is available. Adjust your driving style to account for the available engine power. So in Competetive mode the stabilitrac will still try to save your ass in extreme situations - with both off (the long hold) it will not interfere under any circumstances. All the info is here: http://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam...ers-manual.pdf starting around page 226

Ahh I see ok. So when u put in competitive mode it says stabilitrak above it in the informative screen in the dash. When u hold for 7 seconds it don't say anything so there's no protection. Thx flashpoint

So, I've yet to put my 16 SS Auto on a dyno, but when I do, what is the proper mode setup to prevent the computer from flipping out?

Traction and stability completely off. However you car will still look like a christmas tree. Your tuner should reset this upon coming off the dyno.

So, was there a consensus on this? holding the button for 7 or 10 seconds do anything special? how does that relate to hitting the button twice, or getting the PTM menu to come up? and does PTM actually disable the stabilitrac?
I ask because the past few track days I've noticed that my front brakes have about 50% of the pad left on them after 2 days of track driving, but the rears are worn down to the indicators (~2x the wear than the fronts. Counter intuitive in every way.). I suspect that traction control is using the rear brakes to fight the power I'm putting into the car while tracking out after an apex, wearing the hell out of the rear brakes, as well as robbing me of power. (I might be tracking out of a corner between 60-85 MPH in 3rd gear for example, and I know for a fact that in that gear and speed, the SS should be pulling like a tractor still.) Did anyone else experience the same issue with traction control decimating their rear brakes at the track? Last weekend I was at Road America and used the PTM menu to set the car to "Sport 2" or "Race" mode, but I still feel that I'm being robbed of power while trying to apply throttle when tracking out of a corner after apex. And watching the videos from the PDR seems to support my theory that the traction control is still intervening somehow. The manual doesn't seem to clear on which function does what. (I've got the 2017 SS 1LE.) Thanks for the help! |
