Service Rear Axle

While in the process of driving I had received a "Service Rear Axle" warning message on the dash. However, it went away after I turned the vehicle off and on again.

Any insight on potential root causes for this warning message?

Make sure all of your coil packs are plugged in properly. You may have been experiencing misfire issues as well...

Possible from low voltage on the ELSD, among other things:

definitely the eLSD. That is the only thing in the rear the ECM/BCM can read and modulate. It would be service stabilitrak/abs if that system was affected.

Following up on this as my car had the "service rear axle" warning that came up. I have had the rear diff PCM reprogrammed /reflashed by the dealer once. Three months later, the notice was back. After driving with it a few days, the warning changed to "Rear Axle System OFF." I brought it back to the dealer who said the rear axle control module needed to be replaced. Ill post details once they perform the work next week after the parts are delivered.

The same message just popped up on my 17' ZL1 w/995 miles today. Haven't drove it in just over a week, and noticed it after backing out of my garage shortly after putting it in first gear. Turning it off and back on and the message still came back on. May have to take it in :(

After reading some of the other links above, it seems likely that it's related due to low battery voltage. It cranked over just fine, but I noticed the clock was like 7 hours off until it updated. I'll try putting it on a smart charger and see if the messages still pop up!

Yep sounds like a perfect candidate for low voltage.

Same issue and it was weirdly enough it was one of my coils was not fully seated. Unplugged and plugged in back in and problem solved.

there is a TSB on this. It is likely caused by a wire harness. Sorry, don't have the TSB number, but it has been posted on this site

Attached is a copy of the dealer invoice / work order that they gave me after resolving the service rear axle warning came up and then the rear axle off warning came up. They replaced the Rear Axle Diff Lock Control Actuator, and bled the rear diff hydraulic system (which I don't really know if that is possible considering its an ELSD vs. hydro). Anyways, here is the info for future owners or those that run into this issue. The code has not returned in the few days I have had the car back.

Good feedback, thanks! I never saw the rear axle off message yet, just the service rear axle on the last 2 starts. As soon as I get it back from the ceramic coating I'll hook up the Ctek charger for a few days and see if it still pops up again. Hopefully voltage related!

Just happened to me today. All lights came on. Said service rear axle, rear dif, CEL is on. Parking light is on. Can't toggle through any of my drive mods. smh.

What would be considered low voltage? Mine is reading 14.0. But, I have noticed the past couple a day slow turn over on start up.
