Exclamation Dragstrip Thread Question?

I'll leave this poll up til Christmas at that time i'll go with whatever option won. This is just a general consensus question that popped into my head randomly and stayed there for some reason.

I would say yes just for the simple fact that you can't compare the traction gained....but it is just another "mod"

That's probably why my brain wouldn't let it leave my mind. I understand fully it's another "Mod" but slicks and drag radials really do make the car a whole new dragstrip beast. We'll see how popular the idea is on the poll might make the change earlier if it's a resounding one sided victory among us. Really want the guys racing the I4's opinion but everyone's vote and opinion does and will count.

I think some people are underestimating the performance of some 'street' tires. There was a guy who broke an axle on an SS/M6 with a supposedly stock engine, using Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires. 'Street' tires they were called, but they stuck well enough to snap an axle.

I don't have an I4 so I did not vote.

Why don't I ever see you at the Epping Dragway lol. Granted I've only been twice. I know some street tires grip just fine but traction is always going to be better with slicks and radials.

I was there recently. Guy I know has a '17 I4 and he was running it, 14.00 sec on that night from what I recall, completely stock as far as I know.

In all seriousness, street tires on the track are flat out dangerous.

Street tires on the track are fine. Clearly you had a bad experience.

In low HP cars you can get away with it. But anything running 12's or better street tires are a bad idea. Unless of course you like to pedal the throttle.

Clearly you've not had much experience with newer street tires. I wouldn't put some 500 treadwear rated tires on a 600HP car and expect it to hook, but I'd be just fine driving it with some 180 treadwear rated tires.

People were snapping axles 20 years ago in 4th Gen LT1 cars that were stock with street tires and a 6 speed. That's nothing new. If you rev it up and dump the clutch, shit's 'gon break.
