All the reviews that I read today from the test drives of the '16 SS were completely astonishing, to the point that I just cancelled my 5 hours trip tomorrow to pickup a '14 ZL1 red automatic, low miles.
For the moment I prefer to be patient on my decision until I hear the experience of new '16 SS owners with their cars, and read some reviews of the car beign driven hard at the track with 100 F Plus external weather. Let's see what will happen under those conditions. If something goes wrong with overheating of the LT1 or A8 transmission, then safely I will move back to the actual ZL1 option. Either way, it would be a WIN-WIN decision. |

They should file a lawsuit on the A8 transmission

I'm not worried so much about the A8, but I'm scared to death of "Direct Injection". But so many new hot cars have it, it's hard to avoid it.

Heh, I mentioned to a friend that the new Camaro has direct injection. He laughed, and asked if it ran on diesel as well. (Diesels require direct injection as diesel fuel ignites as soon as it's injected, due to pressure and heat). DI systems aren't new, though recently they've become much more popular on gas engines.

DI isn't anywhere near new lol
IIRC it first appeared in the Daimler Benz 601, an inverted V12 that powered the Messerschmitt 109 fighters in WW2. |

But i doubt it had to eat it´s own crap from the crankcase and some exhaust gas again and again as long until Euro6 Norm was reached This LT1 with DI worries me and chevy´s "half" solution with a catch can only on one side of the cylinderbank even more. The coyote on the other hand seems to be now a bulletproof engine, good for 600hp in safe operation with a 2.9ltr. Whipple says our tuner. |

Is there some manufacturing corner being cut that leads to gunk building up on the valves, or is it an overblown problem?

I don't think the problem is overblown so much as people need to understand DI (at least in most cases) requires cleaning regularly around that 60k-70k range.

However, GM has taken precautions to try to eliminate some of crank oil going into the intake, new for the LT1 in the Camaro. We'll see how it does. I wouldn't say they cut any corners, but there are certainly techniques that exist that can help clean the valves, that GM has yet to employ.
