Improved fuel economy at the track?

First time racing at the track this last weekend. Same track I've been on last year. Usually sessions are around 15min-20min long.

Last year... I was at the track twice... and each time, I would do 2 sessions and would be near empty. I then would need to go fill up and run 2 more times before going close to empty.

This year... I ran about 3.5 sessions on one tank of gas. I couldn't believe the difference.

The weather was fairly similar. No mods... everything about the same.

Do these cars get better gas mileage over time? I know it sounds like a stupid questions but I don't understand it.

Just coasting around a bit will significantly change the MPGs on track. Maybe you were behind more traffic, or weren't pushing as hard for whatever reason.

I get 4 mpg on the track at Sebring. Roughly 80 miles to the tank with my Callaway ZL1 1LE. Basically two sessions just like you did. I sure hope mine improves like yours in the future but I doubt it. I've been at the track about 8 days already this year.

I can't understand it either. That's a pretty big improvement if you think about it when you are running a car as hard as you do on a track.

Haha, good luck . unless you cruise and don't go aggressive, i don't think anything is going to help. I've been averaging like 4-5mpg on track days.

3.2 to 4 MPG. The cars run pig rich from the factory and cars with a tune risk melting the cats. I used 10.6 gallons ever 30 minutes on track on a road course.

At Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, MI I get two 20 minutes sessions before I'm empty every time.

I got 4.4MPG at heartland park, and had an 1/8 of a tank left after 62 track miles.

Have your cake and eat it too?

I'm not an expert but my experience is, I'm either on the gas, or on the break.

You could get a momentum car. Not a joke -- I would say the most fun I've had at the track was either a modified FR-S or a C5 Z06. (Hate to call any Z06 a momentum car).

EDIT: OOps I misread your post, nevermind.

Now we know why your cars are breaking, either on the gas or you break them You should be on the brake.

(I know what you meant, I just saw it and jumped)
