Help me decide: New SS 1LE vs 10 year old Cayman S. (Updated)
EDIT: Go to post 52 for an update: http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showpo...3&postcount=52
Just as the title says, trying to make up my mind what I will enjoy more. A brand new SS 1LE or 2006 - 2008 Cayman S. Cost, reliability, and interior space NOT being an object. The car will be used for spirited driving, autocross, possibly road course, but also as a daily driver. I've driven both, tried doing side by side logical comparisons, and it's still a toss up. So I figured it might be a good idea to ask for an advice here. Thanks in advance! Last edited by Electric; 06-07-2017 at 08:23 PM. |

if cost isn't an object, get a new Cayman S. Otherwise, the new Camaro SS 1LE by a long shot simply for the tech, warranty and less cost of ownership.

Do you plan on modifying the car?
If so, Camaro.

Mods will be light in either case. Camaro won't get anything more serious than the headers. Cayman might get the headers and suspension.

yeah didn't think of the Caymens much when they came out. But since Porsche has been pushing ppk autos on the 991s of lately turning them to Touring cars lol. That caymen gt4 just put a spanking at COTA. Rumor is they are releasing a detuned GT3 motor and stuffing it in the GT4 dubbed the RS. Sorry getting off topic..either a new Caymen S or new SS1LE since you asked

Why a 2006-2008 Cayman. If cost is not an object, buy a 2017 718 not a 10 year old car! |

Well, the reality is, cost is an object, I can either afford a brand SS1LE or a used Cayman S with its maintenance costs. But I did not want the cost to be a part of the discussion.

Oh ok...just saying it this way because you do pay the P car tax when it comes to mods. I bought most of mine used for the 911 to save 40-60%, but even still...Chevy parts are dirt cheap in comparison if you were going to go down that rabbithole a bit.

Would you, by any chance, be able to describe "on track" handling differences? On one hand, Camaro does have a front weight bias, but who knows, the mag ride might be doing its magic so well that it feels like a mid engine car... |

Yes, completely agree. So another thing is I'm kinda concerned that if I don't get a flat 6 (made by Porsche) now, I will never be able to find one in a decent condition for a reasonable price.
