Whether the conversation existed or not, there always has been, and will always be technology and stylings that trickle down, and are borrowed by other brands. You didn't need to be alive in 1970 to be aware of this trend. The Camaro is what it is, borrowed aspects and all. Something like push-button start was a thing of luxury less than 10 years ago, now you can get that feature in cars for less than $20k.

So I'm curious to know if the conversations existed back then too. |

In 1970 I was a Mustang guy. My dad had a '66. I thought the new gen 2 Camaro was hideous. My gen 5 is the first Chevy ever in the family.

In the 70s, any Euro styling was somewhat of a novelty or a co-incidence, but definitely not a priority.
Today US cars need Euro styling to be competitive even in the domestic market. Back then, there was no such concern about losing market share of domestic sales to imports, like there is today. At least that's my take on it, sort of how I "remember" it. |

I don't remember hearing any comparisons to a Ferrari but I was only 7 in 70

I was around and do not recall the comparison. Not saying it did not exsist, I just never heard of it.

IMO there was some influence of European style on the early 2nd gens. I was around but I was at a very tender age; However I do remember some discussion about the styling influence in some publications. The front styling I believe drew some influence from Jaguar. At any rate, one can't deny that the 2nd gen resulted in a very sleek and angular shape.

I want/desire/lust after a '72 "L" code Z in the worst way...and I do not care about the color. Pretty much the same way I want/desire/lust after a 1973 SD T/A. Regardless of the neutered power levels that '73 brought, the styling of those '70+ cars rev my engine!
