Do you really think that Goodyear would make some earth shattering tire that out performs the industry leaders and debut it on a Camaro? There is a reason all the Hyper Cars run either Sport Cup 2's or Trofeo R's. Remember the GT350R that is 1.6 seconds faster is running on Sport Cup 2's! Chevy's own Z06 and Grand Sport Corvette are also running them. Goodyear Supercar 3's will not run faster lap times than Sport Cup 2's on any car. PERIOD!

I love how the Mustang6g guys say the only reason the 1LE would be faster than the GT350TP is tires.
I guess I can put Cup 2s on one of those kids pedal cars and be faster.

And the M4 GTS chassis is apparently crap then? It is lighter, has more HP, a dual clutch transmission, a wing on the trunk and SC2's. Yet the 1LE is just as fast. Sorry I just don't buy into the SC2 being the only tire that is fast. |

If so what's the logic? The only thing I'm hearing is 'they are on the 6th gen 1LE so they must be the greatest tires ever' By the way. I think Michelin Pilot Super Sports will out perform these Goodyear's too. So I think it's laughable that you guys think the Sport Cup 2's will be dethroned by the Supercar 3's

With that said, the SC3's are brand new tires. No one knows anything about them yet. I do not even know of any car you can find them on let alone fine ANY information on the internet about them. Goodyear might be getting into the high end tire game and who is to say they cant compete with Michelin? I personally think GY makes a great tire and would not at all be surprised if they created a new tire that can compete with the Cup2's. (Please be half the cost!) |

The new Goodyears are basically in the same class as Michelin Super Sports, a street tire, no? Michelin Sport Cups are street/track tires and in another class altogether.
Many take for granted what a good set of tires can do.

Tires are the best bang for buck mod I think you can do to any car. They can absolutely transfer a car for the better or worse.

The SS 1LE may end up having the best performance/dollar ratio for a track car ever.
I mean a 1:37.6 Laguna Seca time for a car that starts at just over $44k is amazing... |

To quote Fast and the Furious "You can't just jump in the ring with Ali because you think you can box" HAHAHA!!! In all seriousness yes the tire ratings aren't very scientific and not really regulated, but I would bet a months pay that the Michelin Sport Cup 2's are much better than the goodyears. Now I think slightly more realistic expectations are hoping that the goodyears have improved to be almost equivalent to the pilot super sports.

Let's be honest here. This thread so far is talking about 2 different categories of tires. In general, Goodyear hasn't had a competitive extreme summer or "R-compound" offering in quite a long time. There's a reason many sports, super, and hyper cars are using the excellent Michelin Cup2's; they're fast and have good tread life for a street tire. Obviously we haven't yet fleshed out how the upcoming Supercar G3 will perform, but it's still going to be firmly in the "extreme summer" category. If you want maximum track grip, then practically speaking the Hoosier R7 is your go-to choice. It's in another league compared to "R-comp" tires like the Cup2, Trofeo R, let alone extreme summer tires like the Rival S, and RE-71R. So, to summarize: Extreme Summer tire: *upcoming Goodyear Supercar G3 *Bridgestone RE-71R *BFG Rival S Streetable Track, aka "R-compound": *Michelin Pilot Cup 2 *Pirelli Trofeo R DOT Track tires, the real deal for HPDE's and track days: *Hoosier R7 *Hankook Ventus Z214 and BFG R1S (neither in Camaro sizes)

Basically all GM has to do is work the impossible, given the legal requirements it'll have to meet and jump through. That's what you're saying. |
