Been there, done that with a C class. Out of warranty, no way I'd buy it....no way.

I passed. After reading more and these great comments, my repair bill anxiety went through the roof. I don't get enough Xanax for that car.

Good for you man. Maybe look into Chevy SS or Charger SRT8 if you like CLS type of V8 sedan. Less maintenance cost, more smile per gallon

I have a friend with an '04 E55 AMG
Killer fast, but he has air gas suspension which he just had a strut crack on him. It was a $1100 fix for one strut, and the head liner is falling like a 90's pick up

My dad had the CLS550 2014 and it ran beautifully but like others have said they get you with the service checks $$$. He never had a problem with the car. Now he has a 16 Audi S7, wow is that car cool and he hasn't had any problems. Maintenance isn't too bad either.

My dad has a 2015 cls 400. Great car. Has never had a problem with it. Both my parents have had mercedes for as far back as I can remember and I think the repair bills are overstated. Sure, things go wrong but they do with every car. The real bottom line is that you shouldn't be buying a mercedes if repair bills are a concern in the first place.

Be careful and do your research, I had a R class, and found out the cam shaft balancer was a known issue after it went out, was going to cost me 8 grand to do a tear down on the motor to make sure nothing else was bad, google mercedes cam shaft balancer and you will see what is affected.
Other than that, great cars to drive, however people parking next to you don't give a shit because you have a mercedes and will ding the hell out of it (hey you have a mercedes, you should have the money to fix it).

Had a '95 and '00 C-Class new, each had major problems well before 50,000 miles: gauge cluster, A/C compressor, radio antenna, radio buttons, rear axle bearing failure, rust bubbling on trunk and fuel filler door - all mostly paid for under warranty. Google Mercedes wiring harness problems and see what you get.
That coupled with $250 A-service and $500 B-service at regular intervals just for routine maintenance convinced me to part ways. Still would like to pick up a late '80s or early '90s 190E someday - something I can work on myself. With all of the above being said, they are still great cars to drive and I miss owning a C-Class.

if the money is not a concern and you really like it and it HAS a warranty - then go for it.
do not do thaty otherwise ) I had a ML class (old style) and even then the repair bills have been killing my budget. I only had minor issues (reliable car enough but old) but due to the vehicle age I got CEL on and when I have been told the repair cost is going to reach $1K I did quit the game - sold out the car "as is". |

Might want to go to a Mercedes forum for answers.

This. And Mercedes is about the worst on resale value. My aunt owns an older Merc. 2 door convertable and they have to get a rubber gasket replaced in the rear axle every few years. the Gasket itself is $700.00 and can only be bought from the dealer. This does not include the costs to install it. The gasket is worth more than the car itself. |
