Question Strapping Down The ZL1 On A Trailer

I will be trailering the car this weekend and would like to know what the proper strapping down process is. I would hate to hook on to something I'm not supposed to on these cars.

Please share your experiences and if possible post some pictures of the areas to safely hook on to without damaging the underside of the ZL1.

I will be using a Maxey Drop-N-Load trailer without the E-track (24').

I have trailered my personal street and track cars for 19 years with no issues.

Parking brake on
Car in neutral
Straps through the wheels and crossed in the front (I have protective wheel straps)
Straps through the wheels and crossed in the back
I have one "safety" strap from the tow hook to the floor in the front (may not be applicable)

Straps that are run straight forward/back from wheel to trailer can allow the car to move side to side IF there was an offroad excursion or HUGE bump, curb jump etc. Its all about keeping the car in place in an accident.

Another option is using the holes in the frame used when transporting by rail or car carrier. it is a J or T hook on a chain, but you would need to purchase those.

DO NOT:

Strap to suspension links, trailing arms, swaybars, etc. They are all designed to bent in an accident and can bend in towing. I have seen alignments off as owners didn't even know they bent the trailing arm etc.

Will do.

The new Drop-N-Load trailers have the optional hydraulic jack that you can control the lift or drop with the remote... I believe it can still be added to the trailer, it pretty sick!

Don't forget the spacer blocks for the front coil springs that came with the original transport delivery of the ZL1.

You DO NOT need to put those back in . . . purely needed for added ground clearance for loading and or unloading . .

But to answer the post . . .

I use the body tie down points with "T" towing/recovery hooks

On the belly pan need to route out the holes with a Dremel . . pics below.

What's the enclosed trailer you're running with?

No you may need the ground clearance too ...but too answer the post, how far are you are traveling to the track and the roads that you are traveling. The tie down points are just important as the suspension support in the travel to the destination.

I'll be traveling from Houston to San Antonio (Roughly 230 miles, 460 roundtrip).

I bought the ZL1 second hand and there were many missing parts. I don't have the spacer blocks and I also realized the belly pan is missing as well, so I guess I don't have to route those holes until the one I ordered online will come in.

Thinking about getting one of those trailers (see post #4) but what is the minimum size vehicle (towing capacity) to haul that with our ZL1 on it?

I use wheel straps like these on all 4 tires, so im not compressing the suspension and or damaging wheels with straps going through them, drove from Wichita KS to lincoln NE with the cruise set at 83 the whole way
