Stuffing your Z/28 full of tires
I'm headed to VIR for Winterfest this weekend. Since I haven't found the perfect trailer yet, I'm thinking about stuffing my track wheels/tires into my back seat and front passenger seat. I think I saw a guy on the ZL1 forum do this. Just wondering if anyone has tried this and will all four tires fit?
I know I could try it myself, except right now my Z/28 is stored off sight. Things that make you go hmmm...

Ive seen a set of ZL1 wheels with 305's on them, stuffed in the back seat and trunk of a 1LE. Best part was the bungee cords connected to the trunk lid.

One in the trunk, two in the back seat with it folded down and one in the passenger seat. It's not easy to get them in and out either.

Z/28 back seat does not fold down, but I think I can get 3 in the back since they are 19's. This is going to be interesting, but there's no way I'm going to put unnecessary miles on the Trofeos. VIR is a long trip for me. 194 miles one way.

I only folded the seat down cause I was too lazy to cover the upholstery. You'll get 2 in there but not 3

When I switch from winter tires to summer (visa versa) I put the rears in the back seat and the fronts in the front seat. Tires are not on wheels. Tires are in tire covers from tire rack.

Keep in mind the seat is only Styrofoam under the upholstery. |

Did this twice with my 2nd set of stock wheels and trofeos. Get large thick garbage bags for each wheel and a few moving blankets ($9 harborfreight). I'm 6' 1" so the wheel behind my seat went sideways so it did not affect my seat then the other wheel on passenger side at first sat perfect in the back seat facing forward...but...then the wheel also facing forward in the passenger seat obstructed the side mirror...so I changed the wheel sideways in the passenger back seat but angled enough so the passenger seat could recline enough to see the mirror around the passenger seat tire. Then I used the seatbelt through the passenger seat wheel to secure it in locking mode. I also used moving blankets under and around all wheels...the most critical area is not scuffing anything especially the dash. In the trunk you must remove the cover to fit a wheel in so I put another moving blanket under the wheel and it sits perfect in the wheel well and then put gear over it..jacks etc. It works!!!
also I do not think it is possible to get 3 in the back seat folded down or not and I too never knew it folded...is that in the manual?

You can remove the rear seat entirely and then you will have much more room. The rear seat brace is supposedly part of the rigid structure but I can't believe that it does very much. I ran at VIR in my ZL1 with no rear seat and really didn't see any difference in handling at all.

This is new to me as well. I honestly never checked for the latch.
