Winter tires for 2014 Camaro LT2 w RS Pkg

I am a new Camaro owner (picking it up tomorrow) and new to this forum. I am looking to replace my 20" summer tires on my 2014 LT2 w RS Pkg for the winter season. I won't do a lot of winter driving as my wife drives an SUV but living in New England I have to replace the tires if I want to drive it at all. I am looking at a cost effective option that will get the job done. Tire Rack recommended putting on 17" wheels for the winter with Pirelli Scorpion winter tires. This would address the issue for around $1100 including TPMS. Has anyone else done this? I would greatly appreciate any feedback or further options.

You would be much better off with a toyo or Yokohama winter tires than pirelli. There winter rubber compound is very hard for winter tires were the toyos and yokos have very soft winter tire compound

For the $1,100, buy yourself a winter beater and keep the Camaro safe.

FYI... you have a "2LT", not a LT2.

Great info! I only picked Pirelli, because of the great reviews on this site.

Thanks

Bridgestone blizzacks are another tire to consider excellent winter tires , try and stay away from tires with stud holes those tires often are a all season compound and not a soft winter compound

I have been using Pirelli Scorpion winter tires for the past 2 winters and have never had a problem The tread still looks basically new. I put the same size tires that they call for in the front on the back. 9 inch instead of the 10 " that are the summer tires. Reason being that you want thinner tires for the winter to cut through the snow and not ride on top of it. Be careful with getting rims as in our year / make/ model the calibers need more clearance then other cars. That's if you have the same Brimbos on yours as I do. I just take the tires on and off the same rims.

Take it from a northern Canadian that has worked in the tire industry for many years , the brands I listed are by far the best out there for winter tires

im running the bridgestone blizzak ws80 and so far they have been amazing. We got hit by snow pretty hard two weeks ago and those tires are really good. I'm in southern Ontario.

I have toyo, for my 1Lt on 17in alloys. No issues. Pirelli sucks. In case you are wondering the camaro is pretty good in the snow. Yes, that is my camaro buried in the one picture.

Ran Pirelli Scorpions for 4 winters on my SS. Never a problem.

I realize that driving an old school muscle car with 510 lb/ft at 2800 rpm and drum brakes through a dozen winters in New England and having done the same thing with a manual transmission Camaro SS since 2012 only gives me anecdotal evidence of my evaluation of winter driving, but it is my opinion that my Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow tires have been outstanding. We only got 64" of snow in a month last winter, so I might not know what "winter" is really like; I'm not Canadian, and they invented snow. And I only have to go up winding roads uphill in bumper to bumper traffic so I might also not know what "traction" is or when it is lost.

A dedicated snow tire will serve you well. The Pirellis are a perfectly good choice. Competing brands will not give you problems if they are actual snow tires. I like my Pirellis becasue they are relatively narrow and have a relatively angular shoulder. I don't care that they offer less performance than other brands or that others ride a bit better. These things are not my first concern in snow. They have worn pretty well and I have never had any issues with them being too hard, even in -19* F temperatures. Yes, that's what my outside thermometer read, not my car.
