If you like to stop and steer you need them on the front too. Modern snow tires are designed to be used on all four corners.

My last car was FWD, but before that I always had RWD Lincolns, and never had a problem in the winter.

I was looking into getting Blizzaks. My Chevy dealer said they can mount and balance them for $10 per tire. (unlike some horror stories on here, my Chevy dealer is ok). So it does not even make sense to spend money on a 2nd set of rims. Especially since the 45th rims are unique.

Do they even make Blizzaks that will fit on the RS rims? Last time I checked they didn't, but that was a few years ago.

Something tells me I'll be O.K.

4th gen vs 5th?

I'm also curious how the fifth gens perform. Everyone has undoubtedly seen the Chevrolet video of the yellow camaro blasting through a closed course with snow but what's the real life aspect? Highway driving mainly. My brother has a 2013 and said with studded blizzacks they do fine as long as you don't get high-centered. I used to own a 1997 RS T top with a 3.8 and a 5 speed manual, and with two-80 lb sacks of concrete in the trunk and a careful foot I was able to tackle ice no problem. I remember passing pickups on the interstate the first week I bought it. Though I did get stuck 3 times that winter in snow. So for a 4th gen with all seasons and extra back weight, ice-good/snow-bad. But how are the new ones? I'm afraid to try it in my 2015 v6 A6 but my only other winter option is a 1994 Toyota pickup which is honestly about the same weight.

And yet winter returns! AGAIN!

Some real good info in this thread. I put my car in the ditch a few years ago in the snow with my "summer" tires. And I never did that after years of driving in the great white north.

Welcome Schnee I thought the same as your Dad did. However I put snow tires on all 4 wheels. 245/45R 20's on all four corners as the narrower tire is better in the snow. Got Pirelli's Scorpion Winter from tire rack. You would be amazed at the traction. I had no problems last year in the snow. I too live in NJ and in a area where they tend to forget to plow, went right through, of coarse you can't drive the car as you would in the summer.
As for Mustangs ? LOL

Nice looking car ihc95

Ah yes, I remember winter. I really don't get it, American cars were predominately RWD up until the mid 80's, most of which had V8's. Surely, some of y'all have parents or grandparents that remember how to drive in the stuff...

For manufacturers it's all about the bottom line. FWD cars are easier and cheaper to produce.

define 'fat skinny tires'
