They don't currently have the manufacturing capability to produce enough Colorados and Canyons to outsell the Tacoma. At this time that wasn't the goal to begin with.

With diesel costing more per gallon , higher maintance cost and piss fluid, it won't be much of a saving especially with figuring in the extra $3,800.00 price tag. Also, does the weight of the motor lower the payload capacity as with other diesel trucks? I'm not really seeing the practicality with this combination.

It's a great choice if you want that exact towing capacity in a mid size truck. I agree that the diesel isn't the most cost effective. I personally wouldn't go for the diesel. There are many people that will buy it and never use it but that's kind of what the pickup truck industry is built on these days. I swear that diesel years ago used to cost the same if not cheaper than gas. If it was it would definitely be worth it from a cost standpoint.

Price of diesel relative to gasoline depends on where you live. Some places its the same or cheaper, others its more expensive. Diesel exhaust fluid (if thats too much to type out, just use DEF or urea -its fewer keystrokes than 'piss fluid') should work out to roughly 5% of the cost of diesel. Of course, this will vary based on where you buy it.

But the question of cost ignores the fact that the diesel is likely the better engine if you actually plan on doing trucky things with the Colorado. How much is that worth?

The payload difference between a V6 & diesel appears to be 20lbs, in favour of the V6. Its not going to be a factor for anyone.
