Exclamation Does the Z/28 Heat Extrator Hood work?

Sorry for the stupid question, but I just bought a 2015 Z/28 and when I asked my dealer about the hood's heat extractor, he said it was fake (just for looks)!

I won't think it was fake, but I couldn't find anything specific on the Z/28 hood heat extractor via Google. I did however, find info on other Camaros (on this forum). Saying the heat extractor's blocked appearance was to manage water / heat extraction.

Can anyone confirm this?

Your dealer needs to be educated. Lol. Send those links to them. When the water tray is removed, the extractor will work as advertised.

Not fake...it is a big hole in the hood to allow heat to escape. Once the water deflector is removed, it works well.

Mine has been off since day one. You can see heat waves coming out in stop and go traffic. It works.

That being said, it is more for aero, not for heat removal. That is just one good side effect. A vented hood reduces front end lift which is why the car has a vented hood.

While you are correct in the aerodynamics, everything is tied in to make the car more functional. It is in fact for heat removal as well as stated by Al Oppenheiser. The cars front splitter and rear spoiler (and wicker bill) are used to apply the downforce and balance the car!

Any thoughts about the risks i.e. water in engine compartment, of leaving the water deflector off completely?

Other than water and more dust/dirt, maybe easier for critters. I would consider how much time the car sits outside and how much time do you want to spend cleaning the engine.

To be a little more specific, there is quite a bit of content at the link:

If you go to this link:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=323419

then go to the document library at the bottom of the page and locate the camaro z28 tech background pdf and scroll down through the pages....
