Yep use the loop from day one - the loop is key if you dont use it seat belt is too far back for comfortable grabs every time...

From my experience as a former GM mechanic, seat covers are a standard warranty repair that will be performed by a regular mechanic, usually a more experienced Tech.
Most of the covers are very simple to install and only require a hog ring pilers in some cases. I cannot confirm or comment on the difficulties of the Recaros or any of the camaro seats though.

The dealership ordered a cover for mine and will have an outside shop do the work. I'll post the before and after pictures once the work is complete.

I just looked at mine after 13k miles and it has some wear. I guess I will wait until it gets bad and then take it to the dealer. Then order some kind of protector.

I highly doubt the dealership mechanics change the cover. Most likely it is sublet to an upholstery shop that has the correct tools and knowledge. You really don't want the majority of mechanics trying to install a set cover.

Matt
When they replaced mine they did it in house, no mileage was put on the car. Also the rep told me that GM is aware of the problem and is trying to find a solution and they told the tech to keep replacing them but they hope to have a solution within a few months. We will see!

I was worried about this issue when I was looking at cars. I've had mine for 4 days now and I decided to try this as a solution:

I have fashioned a piece of leather bought at Tandy locally, dyed black, and big enough to fold over on itself and cut slits for the belt loop. Works very well and I didnt want to have the belt come through the harness slot. Did both sides. Used thick leather with one side finished and the other side rough. Rough on the inside. Looks good but I need to trim it to make it look even better and still remain functional. Plus it takes 10 seconds to put on or remove. If there is a leather shop near you they usually have a scrap bin of the leftover cuts from someone elses project, and reasonable.

Can you post a pic of your leather piece in action?

Yes I can but I dont have a picture on my phone. Give me a day or two and remind me if I forget. Crappy work hours may detract my memory lol.

I bought two leather scraps. About 20 bucks each. Approximatly two foot by a foot and a half each. Looks like 1/8th inch thick. One side finished. The other side rough. I have the unfinished side on the inside. Works really good. Just have to trim it to look better Not that it looks bad as it doesnt. Just want to make it look manufactured.

Edit to add: my two scraps could make about 6 pieces. I just wanted enough to play with designs.

I would NOT do this!!! If you get into an accident and you tamper with a life safety device, if you try to sue you will loose. Even for the smallest tap in the rear. If they have a good lawyer. You will get nothing. In fact, it will likely be turned around and you get sued. Good luck with this!!

Would it really be that bad? Honestly, I felt weird about messing with a safety device but I haven't defeated it or otherwise hampered its effectiveness.
