After what that fool did that day he lost any chance of talking his way out if it.

Quote:
Police said Valencia, 36, held up a 7-Eleven convenience store in Tucson, started a fire at a church, and then broke into a home and stole a car and drove to a Walmart in Marana, a town northwest of Tucson.

Valencia allegedly asked a store worker if he could see a rifle and then used it as a club to bash a case and threaten the employee, and ran off with the rifle and a box of .30-30 ammunition, police said. He loaded the weapon and pointed it at an officer before firing instead into the air, and was struck by the police car as he approached a business, police said in a statement Tuesday.

Police said in a statement the officer "[used] his marked police car to stop the dangerous situation Mario Valencia created." Police said that before the incident Valencia had pointed the rifle at his neck.

Careful, your bleeding heart is showing.

No seriously, this may look excessive on the face of it, but once you see exactly what kind of threat this suspect was posing to the community around him you realize this police action was completely justified.

Think about this, the suspect was walking around with a .30-30 rifle. That rifle has a much more effective range than the handguns the officers carry. I don't know if this department has many officers with AR-15's in their cars, but let's just assume they don't. What else are they going to do? Get close enough to use mace, pepper spray, or their tasers? The suspect could easily take any approaching officer out before any of those options are even remotely feasible.

Not to mention the officer that was slowly pacing the suspect was already in mortal danger without even realizing it. The officer that ran him down made a split second decision to catch the suspect off-guard with a surprise action that he probably never even saw coming.

More than likely the officer saved lives and should be commended for his quick actions, which ultimately lead to the suspect not dying.

So yeah, it may have looked bad, but everyone came away from it alive. I'd say that's a job well done in my book.

Little more to the left and we could have avoided court costs.

Yes. A head shot from his patrol carbine was the first other way to handle it that comes to mind.

Active shooter in a residential neighborhood? What else would you have done? Politely ask him to set the gun down? Gotten out of your cruiser to engage him in a firefight? Wait for him to barricade himself inside a house or business with innocent civilians?

While it was unconventional, the suspect was disarmed and subdued with little risk to the officers and anyone else.

In my eyes that officer is a hero who knows what would of happened if he reached the intersection or the shopping center that parking lot goes with hopefully the officer wasn't hurt in the crash with the brick wall.
