3.91 gears install question

3.91 gears install question
I will be having the 3.91 gears installed in my 2013 ss (m6) soon. i want to know was there any regrets after the install for anyone who had them installed.

How bad is mph off before recalibration. The reason i ask is if i have them installed now i do not have anyone to do the calibration here in Sav. I will be camming the car around the first of the year(in ATL) and would have it calibrated then.

You could always use a smartphone app or gps to see how far off it is.

3.91 / 3.45 = 1.13

Your MPH would be off by 13%, I do believe.

Remember your odometer will be reading incorrectly as well. You'll be racking up mileage faster because the computer will think you're going faster than you actually are! This will really rack up some false mileage over months. But if you're camming the car I assume you're not worried about resale. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't think changing the gear ratio would affect the odometer.

Who is installing your gears? A shop? A friend?

Generally, if you have the work done at the dealer, they will recalibrate for you, as well as maintain the warranty on your drivetrain.

A shop will be doing the install. The dealer will install and warranty (12 months)for around $2000. The will do it for $350.

No regrets at all it's a great Mod. If your dealer is doing the install they should also do the recal at the same time. It's part of the installation instructions.

Speedo was off quite a bit, I'd say +12 MPH and 2000 RPM in 6th. Also yes, your mileage will tick up faster.

I did my own install so I had to have the recal done by a local tuner MTI racing. Cost me 200 bucks

Another tip is to make sure that your installer doesn't pinch or break a VSS. Simple fix, but I broke one once when I first did a set and it drove me batty trying to figure out why my speedo recalibration wouldn't take.

It was a $27 part. Simple fix but it makes the dashboard light up something fierce.

Good luck, do it, and don't look back.

We do bunches and bunches of 3.91 installs. I've yet to have someone call me back and say they don't like them. These big heavy tanks called the 5th Gen need the gearing to get moving.

Do yourself a favor and get a TruTrac while you are doing the gears. The factory unit is garbage will fail, leaving you doing one wheel burnouts of shame.

They run about $500, but the money you save now on labor will basically pay for it.

As for the gears, best mod for the $$$ you can do to make this car feel alive. 1st gear is over real quick, 2nd goes almost as quick and the others pull really nice.

RPM's @ 80 in 6th are right at 2200.
