Because of discussion on a different thread. Another V6 C5er has them on & talked about how they are progressive, only lower 1/2 in & still give a good ride quality while improving handling.

Funny rabbit story a few years ago my wife bought a plastic rabbit as a yard decoration and put it in the flower bed by the deck. We noticed that my one Dachshund Helmut was barking at it like he thought it was real. A couple of days later I found it chewed up in the yard so he must have thought it was realistic enough that he must have tried to kill it. Since then we just don't put any decorations where he can get to them
Oops posted this in the wrong thread I must be getting sleepy.

Just thought I would post a quick feeler here for you Automatic v6 owners and see if there is any interest...
I got a call back from a manufacturer of various differential parts. I think I may have sparked their interest in the possibility of making a traction device (locker, or limited slip, still up in the air) for the a6 v6 Camaro rear end... The only real issue is that I (we? Group buy?) would have to get a minimum of 100 units on order for them to justify the R&D/Manufacturing... I know there are a lot of auto v6ers that don't really want to swap in an SS rear because of the cost etc, and would probably never really pump out the amount of power to break the 7.6 to justify the swap to the SS 8.6 rear, but would love to have a posi unit... Show of hands, is there anyone that would be interested? I'm posting this here to hopefully get some constructive feedback... As my conversation with them ended today, they were sending my info to engineering, and I will hopefully have some more concrete info early next week sometime... Once I have some better info, etc I will probably start an official interest thread in the drive-train section. |

Hello again Mirabella!
Jason: Yeah, 100 seems like a lot of people but we do have our fair share of V6 enthusiasts. And of course it depends on a lot of factors. Depends on what the bang-for-the-buck ratio ends up being.

If that trend continued, figure roughly 50k cars sold every year with a v6 auto for a 5 year model run = 250,000 cars... Not everyone that owns a Camaro is on this site obviously (there are only 93k members), but there sure as hell is a lot of people in the world that love to modify their cars. Plus the AUS guys would be all over it too. Considering the number of cars out there, I think selling 100 would be a walk in the park... But basically you've got to get the units first before people outside Camaro5 will bite and it's just a matter of advertising it. Get every Camaro5 member interested in on the ground floor with discount pricing, maybe a couple of the other vendors (Apex?) would want to get it on it and take up some of the slop, stick a bunch on the shelf and start slinging them at retail. From the talk I had with the manufacturer today, if this were to fly and I/we/someone would commit to ordering 100 units, you could have posi for appx. 1/4 the cost of swapping in an SS diff. Toss some 3.55 gears in while you're at it, and you'd still be about 1/2 the price, maybe less. |

Ok, let's say we got 100 v6ers interested and they all put down a deposit. How much would that deposit be, and how much for the part/s?
With our build, we may go with a SS diff swap, but this does sound interesting.

Okay time for educating Ms. Ruby. I know just enough about this differential issue to be dangerous I guess. So assuming complete ignorance, please explain to me:
1) How much difference could this option make for our cars? 2) How complicated & involved would the installation on something like this be? 3) Would installation of something like this put at significant risk other stock parts breaking requiring other things be upgraded? 4) What else should an informed decision maker know about this option?

I am wondering the same. I am about 95% sure I am going with an SS rear because I have a friend who is willing to give me his. Just need to visit him for the parts and install.
