Not even close on the trap speeds.

Vipers and ZR-1's make about 640HP but weigh 3300'ish lb. They trap about 128mph.

700HP is not going make anything that weighs more than 3900lb go 128mph. If it porks in at 4300lb, figure 124mph tops.

Agreed. Also the ZL1 had the right formula that there was no doubt in my mind it would handle as well as it does. The Hellcat will probably be a straight line monster, but it lacks everything it needs to be competition to the ZL1 or Z/28. It just lacks the proportions. Too tall, weight distribution is 57/43, etc.

I do hope its faster the GT500...I think that'd be funny

The thing is maybe 10% of Camaro/Challenger/Mustang owners have an interest in twisty tracks, most care about street performance with an occasional trip to the strip. I don't think Dodge has any intention of ruling the track, the Hellcat's intention will be to rule the streets as in 0-60, stop light-stop light, 1/8, 1/4, roll race, and top end. Remember SRT stands for (Street and Racing Technology). With this said while it may not challenge the ZL1 or Z/28 on a twisty track it will be a well performing car.

Agree. But even in a straight-line I'm not convinced it will be faster than the GT500. The Ford puts 600HP/600ft-lbs to the ground and weighs 3900lbs with a solid rear axle. That's close to 700HP at the crank and will almost certainly weigh 300lbs less than the Hellcat.

So if it's slower than a GT500 at the strip, and slower than a ZL1 around a track and yet costs more than both, what is the attraction here?

everthing I have read says at least 600hp. I have seen some saying maybe more. hard to say until solid ###'s are out.

I can tell you the 392's runs better quarter miles per HP than the mustang or camaro in some ways. I have seen like 12.2's out of people.

although some of the 5.0's run good times per hp.

the GT500 and Zl1 run good times but there heavy and I would not say good times for the HP they have.

12.2's would be a rare case, wouldn't it? A completely stock GT500 down to the tires ran an 11.2 at 128 mph. While that's not the norm, neither is a 12.2 from a 392. Still extremely impressive regardless.

the hellcat will come with 2.4 blower powdered rods and forged crank and it will be 6.2 liter motor. I believe only 5% of the parts are from the392.

There were many on lots around Detroit, I bet half the ford dealers had at least one car.

There were even quite a few allocations to order to at $1500 below msrp.

Yes the 500 will almost certainly have more power and weight advantage, the problem is the car simply can't lay down impressive times most of the time due to the lack of traction. It takes a very skilled driver to take advantage of this car's potential. So while the car may have an 11:30s in it most will only see high 11s to low 12s. The Challenger should be much easier to launch as is the ZL1 Automatic, which is why you are seeing fantastic times out of these bolt-on A6 ZL1s and not so much so with the manual versions. The Hellcat should start with the same RWHP as a bolt-on ZL1.

The attraction of the Challenger is it's look, comfort, true muscle car lines, wonderful twin screw supercharged 6.2 forged engine, and the automatic 8-speed transmission, which will be the equalizer IMO
