Question Concerns With Exhaust Flow With My New Cutouts

Exhaust question!

I have electric cutouts set up like this (not my car though):

I have not even wired the cutouts, so they are open 100% right now. But when I was installing, I ran for a few minutes with them closed.

Does running them closed create an issue? Having the exhaust go down the pipes, about a foot long, and then not be able to escape? Cause any issues with that exhaust coming back up into the flow? I know exhausts are high science, scavenging and the technology behind exhaust flow, so this is beyond me.

Thanks amigos.

I'm not an expert but I think the reason behind electric cutouts is so you can open and close them at will..

It won't hurt anything... It'll charge that area and then flow right on by the cutout opening...

indeed, the only time i ever closed them on my CTSV was pulling in my neighborhood at 4AM (work schedule), and on long road trips. That is the plan here, I just haven't wired them yet.

yeah all my GM v8 vehicles ive put them back there. still loud and all the good noise up front, but without it being overwhelming, and rattling the cabin, and all that negative stuff. sounds great

Depending on the length, they will be Helmholtz chambers at a higher frequency than the Solo j's are used at to kill drone. If they are 18" or so (guessing from the pic) with them closed you may notice the exhaust is actually quieter at say 3k-3.5k rpm than stock. The exhaust pulses reflect back out of phase and cancel the incoming pulses at a resonant frequency based upon length, ect.

Might not notice much resonance since yours are stubbed on at an angle, not sure. Should not cause an issue at all at any rate.

That is almost the same place I installed mine, although mine are bolted together,no issue at all running them closed.

Nice and quiet when closed, sounds mean when open.I installed mine last summer.

It's nice to finally see more people mount them this way keeping the interior from rattling and everything under the car getting hot and black.

Looks great. Not trying to be a turd, but mine are located under the front seats.....and I don't have any rattles at all. Might depend if you don't have the turn downs or not
