Question Window Tint

For those who have tinted their windows. What's a ballpark number for the cost of having it done? (Sides & Rear Window) Is this done at a body shop or who typically does this work? Thanks for your help.

I had mine done at Pro Tint Plano (Texas). I paid about $200 for what I had done. There are different types and shades of tint out there, so you need to get an idea of what exactly you want. There are dealers that will do tint, but mine wasn't one of them.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I apparently goofed though, I thought I put this in the Cosmetic Mod area, not the Cosmetic Maintenance section. :P

You'll want to check your state/local tint laws, if there are any. Your tint shop, whoever you decide on, should be able to inform you. If you decide to go beyond the allowed darkness, you can get stopped, ticketed, and be paying to get it pulled off and redone.

For example, in Missouri, front sides are limited to no darker than 35%; visor strip cannot go lower than the markings on the edge of the windshield or the existing blue strip on some cars; and no darkness limit on anything behind the B pillar and on that front strip.

I always request that they tint the glass blocked by the 3rd brake light. I really hate that hole they cut out for that light.

I was driving my wife's Malibu through NYC and got stopped. Her windows were not limo tint dark, they were either 30 or 40%. I got one ticket for every window that the cop's "tool" said was too dark...3 tickets total! He was an a$$. One would have been fine. Ended up costing me about $400. I even appealed it to no avail.

How'd you get 3 tickets? A tint-meter has to be put over the edge of a window to measure the tint. 4 tickets would make sense, but 3 I don't get.
