Does your ZL1 have the YF5 California emissions RPO? If your vehicle was ordered for an Arizona delivery, it may not include the YF5 RPO. A vehicle must have the YF5 RPO in order to be fitted with the California emissions sticker.

here you go looks like FE9 isnt always 50 state emissions. also the LSA ZL1 engine is listed on this document. hope this clears it up as im confused still, if FE9 is 50 states why have the seperate YF5 code??

However if you find a new car at an out of state dealership that was ordered with option code FE9, which is the 50-state emissions sticker, that car can be registered in California. The CA DMV website states this information.

What is even more interesting is I have not found anyone who can tell me what the real difference is between both option codes. It really does not make sense at all.

I believe that since 1996 most vehicles (the exceptions are some trucks and SUVs) made for sale in the U.S. have had the same emission equipment regardless of the state in which they were originally destined for sale. California labeling requirements are a little different in that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) requires a state specific sticker stating that the vehicle meets the emission requirements for California.

To make things a little more confusing, the CARB requirements have sometimes varied from year to year. In some years the requirements accept an emission sticker for all 50 states, while in other years the requirements specify that the the emission sticker must be California specific.

I believe that for the 2012 and 2013 model years a California specific emissions sticker (RPO YF5) is required by CARB. Therefore, if one is ordering a car that will be registered in California, it is wise to specify the YF5 RPO code when the vehicle order is placed, as having the YF5 sticker will avoid possible registration problems when the time comes.

I'm with you I think this whole emissons labeling is a joke, every document contradicts the other. The government is at its best on this one!!

It's funny how the screen shot of my old ZL1 build sheet show three options, but the FE9 does not state 50-state emission but it should.

Looking at the screen shot from the attachment submitted by a gmgdave its confusing as it could be.

Wrong. I ordered and bought my ZL1 from a dealership in Ohio. He ordered it with the code YF5 50 state emissions. I went to the DMV in Fremont and I had to get the car smogged regardless of the sticker under the hood. Once got the smog then I was able to register the vehicle and I dont have to smog for another 6 years.

So if you want to save yourself from standing in line twice, go get your smog first. Trust me. You'll thank me later from having to stand in these dreaded CA DMV lines twice.

RPO FE9 provides the federal 50 state emissions sticker and RPO YF5 provides the California emissions sticker. The sticker is mounted on the underside of the hood on the driver's side.

If your vehicle has the YF5 California emissions sticker, I'm surprised, but not shocked, that the California DMV required a smog test.
