Yikes New M5 Power!!

We spend so much time talking about the new Shelby, but maybe we (and Shelby) should watch out for this monster! Who says a heavy rear wheel drive car can't be fast!! Everyone who thinks the American Muscle cars need to lose weight, prepare to eat your words. Yes I know it cost a lot more than the ZL1 and Shelby, but geez its fast and has all kinds of luxury. I wonder is this the new fastest 4 door production sedan. I would like to see this go head to head with the CTS-V.

Stats:

Weight: 4348 lbs

0 to 60: 3.7 seconds
1/4 mile: 11.9 seconds

That thing is a beast, just wish they kept the E60's V10. Can't deny that it's really fast but it doesn't do it for me. I'm holding out for now.

Looks like Cadillac needs to make a change to the V. It has been the same since 2009. The new M5 will easily beat the V.

I understand that launch control can compensate for a lot of things, but I don't understand how it can compensate for 4340lbs of weight. The CTS-V has launch control, is lighter and has more torque. Can someone explain the physics of how this M5 achieves what seems impossible?

I am not aware of launch control on the V, but I have an automatic.

My first guess would be short gearing, followed closely by stickier tires, then under rating the engine.

No idea .......... Top Gear said it may be the greatest car ever Tell you what the Germans were not happy about losing the crown to the CTS-V.

It's actually more than likely the Dual Clutch Transmission and Launch Control. The DCT is the same reason an M3 will do 0-60 in 3.9 Seconds with Rollout...

Can we get a dual clutch and HP bump in the 2014 ZL1

I don't know what you're reffering to. But its pretty easy to under rate an engine if you don't follow the SAE testing procedure.

Also, there is quite a difference between saying that an enigne must be underrated based on a single dyno run & speculating that another one could be underrated to as a possible explanation as to how the car performs better than it should.

This...more technology basically. Same reason why a almost 4k lb GTR is so damn fast.

GTR also had the advantage of all wheel drive, where the M5 is only rear wheel drive.
