I did read the flaps would be open until it reaches the 1000 rpm mark so that helps some but I still plan to do it.

ZL1 Exhaust Flap Fuse?

This may possibly be the first free mod to perform on the ZL1. I was reading the following article from Autoblog about the '12 ZR1 and it stated to pull a fuse for the exhaust flap solenoid for a better exhaust tone.
2012 Corvette ZR1
Quote:
There wasn't much of an opportunity during those first few minutes to open it up, but we did spin the analog tachometer well around its dial on the surface streets (first gear is good for more than 65 mph, so shifting is theoretically optional). After less than 10 minutes behind the wheel, our initial impression was that the ZR1 was crazy fast, but it was also a very quiet supercar – much too quiet, which was both frustrating and baffling.

Minutes later, we were online for some assistance. It came quickly. Ben Wojdyla (Associate Auto Editor at Popular Mechanics) suggested pulling the Exhaust Flap fuse. What is that you ask? It seems that Chevrolet, in a move to appease the EPA's sound limits on motor vehicles, electronically plugs part of the rear silencer on the ZR1 (and the Z06) to keep noise levels to a minimum most of the time. The result is that the ZR1 sounds like a Silverado pickup unless driven at wide-open throttle. Since it is our firm belief that sports cars should always sound at least as aggressive as they appear, Ben's advice was heeded and the offending 10 amp fuse was gently removed from its location in the passenger footwell. The process was accomplished cleanly and entirely by hand in about 45 seconds.

Seconds later, the supercharged LS9 6.2-liter V8 barked to life with a newfound throaty voice. Acorns fell from trees and nesting birds a quarter-mile away took flight. Hear the effect for yourself in the Short Cut video below.
Does anybody know if ZL1 exhaust will have a fused exhaust flap?

Yes, the ZL1 does have a fuse that is used in its dual exhaust mode control circuit.

So $100 to control the exhaust at will or free to bypass it via pulling the fuse?

Edit: Read all the way through the thread and see that pulling the fuse was discussed. Sorry for the repeat info.

The active exhaust programming is different for ZL1, too, if I remember correctly... It seems to me the valve will be open pretty much whenever you're driving "spiritedly", and since I'm planning on resonator-delete and to mod' the mufflers (perhaps some shorties to keep the hippies happy), I'll probaby leave the OEM functionality alone, since I'll be making WOT a little louder. Full control at your fingertips is pretty cool though

Send a message via Yahoo to itsadryheat79
You can save $10 by ordering the same partnumber but with the corvette description.

Vet -- http://www.southerncarparts.com/corv...tch-p-231.html

ZL1 -- http://www.southerncarparts.com/cama...er-p-4039.html

Hmmmm wonder why the Vet one is cheaper?

My bro did the same thing on a Z06 but it cost him 10 bucks. just go to a hardware store buy the wire and switch and have it as a manual switch. Lots of posts on corvette forums on doing this.

NOTE: since this is almost identical system as the Vette.. I wouldnt recommend u pull the fuse completely... When driving at low RPMs IE on the freeway.. its loud to the point of madness! Though ZL1 might have more sound protection than the z06

I've read that too that the program is different for the ZL1 than the Vette. I beleave it is open at startup and idle too. During light loads/cruising it is closed also.
