Our club president in currently restoring an older Camaro. He is putting a 5th Gen Camaro interior in it. Why don't you do the opposite! Then you would have the best of both worlds..............Just a thought.

love. my. car.

Maybe consider making the car sound more retro with an aggressive camshaft? I know this is going to sound super weird, but you know that metra dash kit? It has "old school" style buttons beneath the LCD screen and really doesn't have a "flowing" design which, I'd call retro. Maybe adding that would help a little. Also consider swapping your plastic door inserts with ambient lighting for the LS cloth panels? Also, if you're into it, throw some retro wheels on it as well. Changing the shifter as well to a more retro version may also help with your throwback feeling.
But I'm sure it'll never compare to the real deal 1st gen in its ability to make you feel like you did when you owned one. You can't fake the memories. It's like going back to the high school you went as a kid, you can walk down the halls and have all these memories, but going to another high school doesn't bring them back. If it were me and I couldn't have both. I'd stick with the 5th gen because of the improved reliability and handling as well as not having to cover it on those bad weather days. But as others have said, it's up to you. The 1st gen is what started it all, you can never go wrong going back to your roots!

I'm the same age as you man. We are not old enough to feel like this. I love 1st gens but I would never own one. I enjoy modern aesthetics in my ride and would hate to look at all the prehistoric gauges and knobs inside of a 60s car. That's just weird. Do what makes you happy.

Here is my solution. Keep the car. Mod the interior to liking. Put on a zeppelin shirt and cd or mp3 and cruise around with tons of nostalgia in modern comfort, performance and safety.
Oh wait thats what i did it works..... |

I wondered what the hell happened to you! I knew you had to run out of gas eventually and show up here again.
You, my friend, need to get some serious power adders to make you love your car again. Keep the thrill alive, baby! |

I'm older than both you cats and I'm puzzled also. 11 years ago isn't that long ago and if u were 16 then, where does the nastalgia for a 1st gen come from? I love the exterior look of classic cars, but pretty much everything else about them makes me want to barf. If you want to live in the past though, there certainly isnt anything wrong with that. Go get a 1st gen and live it up!!

Get a 1st gen thats been modified with 4 wheel indapendent suspension and a ls3 under the hood. Like a modern day first gen but with the stock interior.

I have to agree with others, the 5th gen is so awesome with all the new technology. So much faster & comfortable. Yes I would love a 69 Camaro but now they cost as much as a new one. For a fully restored 1st gen you will pay dearly. My other toy is a 55 Chevy which I love, but I am not partial to either one. I get more high five with my 55 Chevy. To each there own. Welcome back

As long as you waited to get your Camaro, and as fired up as you were when you got it ya got to hang onto it for a while. I to love the 1st gen cars and love the old school feeling. I put in a rowdy cam and have considered the wood grain hydro dip on interior. But... I guess you have to do whatever makes you happy right?
