Most manufacturers in cases like this would look at the sales figures for both transmissions and take that in to account when building a new model, so to maximize it's market potential. This scenario suggests that GM didn't do that at the beginning.
AHhhhhh. Funny what one little word will do to change the meaning of a post!

Personally...I think they planned an auto from the beginning...they would have had to in order to reinforce and validate it in time...but they had a little fun playing with out heads to pique interest.

I am still not completely sure that I will pick the Manual or not. Here is a question for those that are going with an Auto. If the Auto has a $1500.00 option price and it brings a $2,500.00 Gas Guzzler Tax, a $4,000.00 total increase, how many will switch back to a Manual Transmission?

That is what I've been saying since before the official Word. It got a lot of traction and was talked about for quite awhile. Than the can come back and say "Hey we listen to our customers and they want an auto"

Chevy needs a good Dual Clutch Automated Manual Option, just to completely get rid of the Automatic like BMW did with the M3. Then everyone is happy. You manual guys get to continue to play with your knobs and clutches and the Auto guys can be happy with a transmission that shifts faster than you can think.

The only thing that will prevent the manual from dying is the fact that they cheap to replace compared to a more advanced transmission with tons of complex parts. Until DCMT's are cheap to fix Stick Shift Manuals are here to stay.
