I did the same thing, I took a buddy for a ride and hit the limiter and it shut down for a second or two, I pulled second gear with my foot still in it and it recovered quick but you definitely loose all momentum. It's very easy to do the engine sounds so nice and it pulls like a bat outa hell it kinda puts you in a zone, it makes you think it'll keep on going

You'd have to tune it out, there's no add on to override the factory rev limiter. Maybe you're thinking of a skip shift eliminator?

I was getting second gear scratches all the time with mine and never experienced a problem until I had my car tuned. The first time I tried after that, I hit the limiter in first and the car started to bog. I know the Vector tune raised my rev limiter by a couple hundred so the only thing I can figure is that the engine is now winding up faster and I let my RPM's get away.
