New vehicle break-In period
Happy New Year All!
I'm new to the forum have a 2023 Camaro with the LT1 engine and 10 speed auto. I realize the vehicle engineers usually set the break in parameters, however 1500 miles seems like an unusually long break-in period to keep the speed under 80 MPH and the RPM's under 4000. These cars are often not daily drivers (At least in the Northeast U.S.) therefore 1500 miles can take a long time to reach. Have most of you stuck to these recommended parameters and any thoughts/knowledge why such a long break-In period? |

Follow the recommendations. The engineers know what needs to be done.

I just drove the car. I didn’t do burnouts or redline shift for the first 600-700 miles. I did go above 4k rpm every now and then. After that I ripped on it whenever I felt the urge. The car is now almost 8 years old with 42K miles. It burns zero oil between oil changes.
Are there any concerns if you drive conservatively for the first 1500 miles - no. Do you need to - I didn’t and have no regrets. Enjoy that new ride!

I took it fairly easy the first 500 miles..highest RPM I hit was 4300... didn't do any WOT pulls during that time...took it to the dealer for the first oil change at 500...was watching the mechanic and in talking with him, he's been an ASE GM mechanic for 21 years, with most of those years dealing with sports cars(vettes, ZL1's, SS's etc) and he said once you're past 500, your good to get on it if you wish. He stated that the suspension, piston rings, etc are not going to "seat" any more at 1,000, 1,500 2,000 miles than they are at 500 miles....he's given this advice to many sports car owners and said none of them have reported catastrophic damages. I asked about diff fluid change on my ZL1 at 1,500 and he did agree that is a good idea to get the initial machining metal flakes out of there....to each their own.

I followed the recommendations and used it as an excuse for taking some longer weekend trips with it until I hit 1,500 miles.

I think the C8 has the break in loaded in the powertrain calibration.
80 mph and 4,000 RPM is not that restrictive. I had a Kawasaki ZX6 many years ago and the breaking was 4,000 RPM for 600 miles. 4,000 RPM in a 600cc engine was barely highway speed lol. Obviously it’s your choice to ignore or follow. GM has given you their recommendation. But sounds like you are looking for someone to tell you it’s ok to ignore it based on your post. If you wanted to follow it you would just follow it not have posted.

700 miles is the engine break in. Based on what i saw come out of the oil filter after cutting it open on the first oil change, I'd wait the 700 miles and do an oil change, then start getting on it.
I cut open another ACDelco pf64 filter after 4100 total miles, and it looked nothing like the first one. Glad I got all that junk out after the break in oil change. I did the differential fluid at 1500 miles just to get the assembly lube and break in materials out. There wasn't much there.

I did they break in as suggested and now I'm at 10,000 miles with the majority of that being on track above 4k RPM. So far so good..
