Question 5w40 instead 5w30 in summer

According to the oil/environment table, 5W40 is more suitable for hot regions than 5W30.

I need to move to Arizona for a year so I would like to know what can happen with my L99 if I change the oil to 5w40?

By the way, I checked the Liqui Moly oil catalog and it offers 5w40

Owners manual says to use 5w-30. I would follow that vs a generic chart. Really the oil shouldn’t be any hotter in Arizona than Maine unless you are tracking the car. Maybe then you might consider bumping up to 40w.

^^^^ This, no reason to change oil viscosity. The factory knows best as they have done lots of research to make sure what the engine needs.

I run 5w40 in my 1le and did the same with my 2011 Silverado for 12 years with no ill effect. At most maybe 1/2 mpg loss. Nothing to worry about.. 👍

What storey wrote. The outside air temperature has very little impact on your engine's running temperature (save for extreme conditions), so unless you know something about your engine that's different than the factory condition, I'd stick with 5w30.

Both of my Camaros are very happy with 5w30 and I live here in AZ.

I just ordered Amsoil 5w-50 to run for the summer. See how it runs!
