Seeing as your only going to put the standard shift boot in the bottom of your tool box its not that big of a deal.

With the old style you needed to turn the boot inside out to cut the small zip tie that held the weighted M6 shift knob to the leather.

So I suggest turning it inside out to find out if the ring is glued on.

It shouldn't be that difficult to mod it.

I'm inquiring because I need to know what to purchase. I don't have the boot yet to check it. I don't mind purchasing the knob too, but I don't know if the manual knob will mount to the automatic lever.

I'm hoping someone is familiar with the parts.

I screwed up my post I meant to say the " the weighted M6 shift knob will go into your tool box"

It does not fit.... you reuse your old one.

Just buy the boot...some have used aftermarket boots that you can get on Ebay.

I thought I would bump this as a good cheap mod alternative to the ever more expensive and rare Hurst A6 combo

Has someone done this modification with the new parts? Can the chrome ring be removed? Does the shift knob need to be purchased too? Will the shift knob mount to the automatic shifter?

Your assistance is appreciated.
Shift boot assembly is still on Ebay in many different configurations for the 2012-15. I even see ones that were not available years ago .

I ordered the one with the plastic ring, but found no way of removing it without causing damage, so I returned it. Unless someone knows something that I don't, only the pre-redesign version works and it's next to impossible to find now.

Edit: Actually, this is exactly the one that I need, but I'm not spending $130 for it: https://www.ebay.com/itm/233579577769

I am glad I did mine before they got discontinued.

I tried searching for it for you PDX but I came up empty.

It looks like some scattered dealerships may still have some in stock.

I appreciate you searching. It's even more of a needle in a haystack because I need the one for the Commemorative Edition stick shift. It's black with red stitching, to match the Adrenaline Red interior, that was only made for this single edition.
