What should my new battery be reading?
My car was sitting at a Chevy dealership for the past 6 weeks. They put in a new AC Delco battery as part of the repair. The highest the voltage gets on normal city streets is 13.5 while I'm driving. It drops down to 12.3 after awhile. Is this normal? I don't have a voltage meter to check the voltage while the car is not running. The auto zone in our city doesn't have a working voltage meter either to check. Should I take the car back to the dealership or is 12.3 to 13.5 normal while the car is running? Can we check the voltage on our car dash with rhe car not running?

The car has an intelligent, load based charging system with a dual function battery gauge. When the alternator is charging the battery, you'll see voltages from 13.5 to 14.5V, whereas the gauge will show actual battery voltage whenever it is not being charged, that's when you see voltages between 12.25 and 12.75V.
