As a Camaro owner, you may give up some alpha chassis goodness and lap time superiority but you pick up better visibility, modern interior and gauges, 480-500hp V8 with a 7,500 rpm redline paired to a Tremec 6 speed. If you are in the market, it is hard not to like that recipe as long as it is priced realistically.
I’m curious how many current and prior Camaro owners actually cared about lap times prior to the 6th gen. I bet it wasn’t very many. It wasn’t until the Camaro became the lap time king for its price range that made people pay attention. The purpose of these cars when they came out in the 60’s wasn’t lap time superiority, it was straight line performance and that’s what the car was associated with its whole life until the track special 5th Gen variants came out. Then when the 6th gen came out pretty much any variant became fun to drive on track/twisty roads.

I’ll admit I didn’t care about its lap times until I bought the car and saw how nimble it was on the twisty roads nearby where I lived. That being said I don’t live near those types of roads anymore and I kind of miss having a more “cruiser” like pony/muscle car. I do road course my car 1-2 times per year but I drive it on mostly straight roads the other 99% of the time I’m driving. For me, if I decide to move to the 7th gen Mustang, I don’t think I’ll miss the handling characteristics of the alpha chassis that much except for the few times I go on the road course (assuming ford actually provides a diff cooler on the standard GT or performance pack this time around).

Lots of current 6th gen owners never even considered a 5th gen.

I can't help but think if the segment outpriced the people who always wanted and actually wanted the cars for what they used to be.
Yep I agree with this. I’ll never forget even though I never owned one I constantly bragged about how a 30-37k mustang GT from 2011 was able to keep up with a 60k m3 from 2011 around a track and in a straight line because of my American pride

And then when the 6th gen came out I remember watching motor trend compare it to the m4 of that time and again the American car was able to keep up while costing about half as much and the m4 they reviewed didn’t even have leather/a lot of 2ss standard options in it.

I choose my 6th gen because it was the fastest car in a straight line that I could afford at the time. The handling was just icing on the cake. If there was a 500 hp option in that price range that didn’t handle as well and weighed close to the 6th gen (this removes the challenger) I probably would have bought that car instead.

Wink

From the side picture and the hood picture it looks like a 6th gen Camaro, even they copied the flat steering wheel. The dash looks like the one on EVs.

Besides of the design, the only thing that they really need to improve is the handling of the stock GT. It's going to be a seller without the competition of newer Camaros or Challengers.
I really don't understand why GM didn't continued with a 7th gen Camaro

I think it looks good and is a great follow up to the S550. I'm more interested in the chassis dynamic than anything else. However, a locked computer with OTA updates will really hamper the aftermarket until they can figure out a work around. When companies do this, they really shoot themselves in the foot for potential sales but, it also protects them better so, it's a bit of a double-edged sword.

Nonetheless, styling is subjective and while there are a few parts of it I'm not super sold on yet, I can certainly get behind the entire theme of the car and what they're hoping to accomplish. I think the car in general will sell very well considering how the landscape of its competition has changed. I find the car tempting to get but, I have to remind myself that I'm woefully done with front-engine, RWD cars after the ZL1 1LE.

The drift hand brake is a super cool idea! I would love to have that. Also, what are the manual options im surprised there are two.

The redesigned Mustang will go on sale as a 2024 model year vehicle and offer new engine options, along with an overhauled interior with two, curved displays that owners can customize."

So, Chevrolet drops the Camaro and Ford releases a redesigned gasoline powered Mustang, which should be in high demand.

The reason Ford is able to continue the V8 mustang is they sell enough Mustang Mach E's to offset it and meet EPA fleet requirements. Chevy could do the same thing but between the Corvette and the Camaro they will have to sell a lot of EVs.
