Yeah, that's what most service depts do, they start by pulling the VIN and calibration info via a dongle for convenience, no matter what service you requested.

One would think this "highly complex" procedure of plugging a giant one-way (not USB) connector into a giant socket is manageable, though...

For the people who had a bad experience, and damage to your
Vehicle, very sorry, and hope you’ll never have that experience
Again, for everyone, as for simple maintenance,i.e., oil change
Tire rotation (if applicable) buy the tools that are required,
And do it yourself !!

Some of us are at a point in our lives where that just isn’t viable any more.

I typically do all my own work or have a friends father do it for me but in this case I was just tryna to cash in on what was included with the purchase, definitely wasn't worth the stress.
To your point, a very valid point I might add, I certainly hope you're being very thorough when you check in and if possible keep an eye on your vehicle while being worked on.

Well, did u hear about the tech,”Porter” , who got
Killed in a shop during maintenance on a customer’s
Vehicle? It seems one of the “Porters” didn’t know
How to drive a manual!,and ran over his coworker!
So….the family of dead “Porter” is suing , not only
The fool that can’t drive a manual, and The dealership
But the actual owner of the vehicle that was being
Serviced!!!…..now the vehicles owner has to get a
Lawyer to represent him in court! That’s gonna $$$$$!

I don't understand why some people get so uptight about taking there stuff to the dealership. Mistakes happen. Nothing is irreparable! Ive had my ZL1 at the dealership for a routine oil change and they scraped the splitter driving onto the ramp. I probably would have never have seen it until it was too late. But they came out and told me about the damage and bought me a new splitter. My reaction was "no big deal you will make it right". the guy thanked me and stated he was worried because most people freak out over this stuff. Im like why? There is way more important things in this world to stress about. again. Nothing is irreparable. Worse case scenario they total the car and you replace it with a new one at there cost. Walk the vehicle before and after with the service advisor and you will be fine.

Because I don't want to deal with it. Simple. You gave the easiest, least significant problem. My friend told me about knuckleheads' who scratched his interior in few places, including main head unit screen. Replacement was also scratched. Now unit is on backorder and he basically has scratched up car for a time being. Not to mention situations where they would say "no, we didn't do it". Or what if they "forget to put oil in it" type of mistakes? Blown engine means you are with no car for weeks. But "everything can be fixed", I guess... And the worst: https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/j...echanic-death/

Service manager friend of mine told me how one time a guy came in for his free oil change in his new C6. Was adamant no one was driving the car but him and insisted on driving it onto the lift. When getting out he banged the door into the lift post. Didn't say whether or not he drove it himself to the body shop.

Early ‘90s. I was managing our service parts and remanufacturing activity. We also often sent service engineers to dealerships to assist with root cause analysis of repeated failures. The service engineers are the guys that wrote the engine and transmission service procedures and manuals and helped design the special tools. We had one service engineer who can be <nice filter on> prickly </nice filter>. He’s at a dealer “helping” a dealer tech diagnose a repeated transmission failure and is painstakingly explaining to the tech why flushing the entire cooling system is important to prevent sediment from traveling into the valve body. Most common cause of repeat transmission failure.

A truckload of new vehicles was being delivered and the tech took this as his escape from the service engineer’s ass-hattery. Tech jumps into a C1500 while the service engineer is still lecturing him, angrily throws the C1500 into reverse and backs it off the car carrier. Right into a Calloway Corvette that had just been prepped for delivery to the customer, who was already en route.

I got a really nasty call from the dealership owner.
