Normal Coolant Operating Temperature 2018 SS
What are you guys running when fully warmed up for your coolant temperatures? I'm running an obd2 p3 gauge and driving normal for awhile it runs right at 180 degrees. This seemed to cold to me. I left the car in the driveway idling for like 10 minutes and checked it and it was up to 205????

I have not hooked up scanner, but once warmed my 2SS routinely runs with the digital gauge pegged at the 11:00 hash mark, which I presume is around 200 deg.
If your car gets to 205 while idling then 180 while driving, your thermostat is likely sticking open a bit. 180 doesn't sound too low. But some cars may not enter closed loop mode in the 160 range. This will hurt fuel economy. I may be able to dig up the prerequisites for closed loop from the service manual. |

Mine also sits right at the 200º mark. Also in TX climate.

These cars run up to 210F when the fan kicks on.

These cars run normally from 180 to 210 which is where they are supposed to run. 180 is not too cold.

Now 180 may well be in GM's "acceptable" range, but I always start to worry when the coolant temperature fluctuates once the car has warmed. The service manual does not specify the exact engine coolant temperature (ECT) for closed loop: DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION > FUEL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION > RUN MODE The run mode has 2 conditions called Open Loop and Closed Loop. When the engine is first started and very close to 14.7:1.the engine speed is above a predetermined RPM, the system begins Open Loop operation. The ECM ignores the signal from the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). The ECM calculates the air/fuel ratio based on inputs from the engine coolant temperature (ECT), manifold absolute pressure (MAP), mass air flow (MAF), and throttle position sensors. The system stays in Open Loop until meeting the following conditions: The HO2S has varying voltage output, showing that the HO2S is hot enough to operate properly. The ECT sensor is above a specified temperature. A specific amount of time has elapsed after starting the engine. Specific values for the above conditions exist for each different engine, and are stored in the electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM). The system begins Closed Loop operation after reaching these values. In Closed Loop, the ECM calculates the air/fuel ratio, injector ON time, based upon the signal from various sensors, but mainly from the HO2S. This allows the air/fuel ratio to stay |

Factory stat is a 190° if my memory is correct. 180°-205° is with in range. I have a custom thermostat housing on mine with the LS3 style 160° and mine stays around 160° to no more than 180° during the hotter summer months.

So 180 may not be out of line...the factory gauge is right around the 11 o'clock position like everyone says. I guess have the digital p3 gauge now just has me thinking more about it. Btw I'm about 40 min from college station like some of you above

Keep in mind if you run pure E85 the engine will run cooler.
