Radiator shroud - Can I remove it?

So I'm wanting to put some hidden LEDs behind the front grill, it looks like the easiest (and only) way is to remove the radiator shroud.

This piece seems overly complicated to take off, so when I take it off, is there any reason I can't just leave it off? This would allow me easy access behind the front grill when I needed it. But if that metal piece has a functioning purpose then I'll just put it back.

The shroud directs the airlow, and can make a big difference. If you leave it off, it pulls air from where ever it can, including the inside of the engine bay. With the shroud on, it pulls fresh air through the radiator, because that's the only way for it to go.

It also supports the front bumper and sets the height of the bumper in relation to the hood. It's not that difficult to remove if you unbolt the hood latch and let it drop down a bit. The only other difficult part is getting it out with the adjustment bolts (2 bolts with the Torx heads) still in there. It can be done with some patience though.

if you remove/replace the hood release bolts thru the grille it makes it MUCH easier.
